This one is an old friend, and he posted this crap on Facebook.
I have been pondering following the most recent earthquake. There have been more recorded earthquakes in the last century than in the preceding 2000 years. More people have been affected by famines and pestilence in the last century than any other time in history and within this last century we have the only time in world history where the whole world has been at war. The only place I know that speaks of these things is the Bible and it does so as a warning that we are approaching the time of the end (Matthew 24). These warnings are followed by parables that exhort us to be aware of the times and seasons in which we live when we see an escalation of these things. The bible has, so far, not been wrong about anything it prophesied, so this leaves me wondering what comes next. The signs are there for our notice and we are in danger of ignoring them and failing to make the appropriate response. We have no way of telling how long it will be before He comes, but certainly the signs of the times and seasons are with us.

I would not be concerned by the mumblings of those who wave the Bible as a book of knowledge about the future of mankind. The people who wrote it believed that the Earth was flat and that the sun revolved around us. If they got that wrong what else did they miss?
Human beings are a relatively new form of life on the planet and as such are quite insecure. The Bible was not the first scholarly attempt to understand our relationship to the universe, the Chinese have been seeking that knowledge far longer than anyone in the western world.
But rather than contemplate our relationship to the cosmos, Christianity seeks to label things as good or bad only from the perspective of the Bible, and that is their error. Its a nice old book, a great historical novel, but hardly an owner's manual for life on Earth.
It is a great chronicle of mass hysteria: Noah and the Great Flood that encompassed the Earth, hardly true but it made a great movie. Earthquakes are just a reminder that the planet is still evolving, whereas the Bible is not. To me its a good read about ancient culture, and then ought to be relegated to holding up that sagging couch in the corner.

The earthquake's actually much better than the 1923 Kanto earthquake and likely will be better than the 1995 Hanshin quake, in terms of fatalities.
Technology means there are less and less casualties from natural disasters- things are getting better, not worse. Thanks to science and no thanks to Jewish zombie worshippers.
The "fringe science" I find more interesting is those that are drawing connections between the earthquake and recent solar flares and magnetosphere fluctuations. I think THEY (while still not typically mainstream scientists) might well be onto something.

The Fukujima powerplant having a meltdown so far has caused 3 deaths. The amount of radiation leaking from the plant every hour at this stage is only equivalent to the amount of radiation absorbed by the average human in a year.
It's a controlled meltdown, it's hardly going to be another Chernobyl. Technology has improved. In fact the "meltdown" is probably less dangerous than the burst dam, or the Oil Refinery fire:

The earth was struck by a Mars sized planet about 3 billion years ago, which helped create our moon. That was some earthquake that day. And there were no nutters nambering about then. Just pure energy.
