We have a very interesting crop of stories we're harvesting at present. More than one is a tough read. One of those seems lighter, yet is not, and is published posthumously.

Today's set has been published, as usual. The 'story' so far is below:

Sets 1 - 6: 7 items
Sets 7 - 9: 6 items
Sets 10 - 14: 5 items
Sets 15 - 17: 3 items
Sets 18 - 25: 2 items
Sets 26 - 60: 1 item

No submissions yet for Black and White Boys, though one is promised so far.

I'm happy to do a Valentine's Special if enough folk enjoy writing one, otherwise I'll sneak the Valentine's tales in 'somehow'.

Things look calm in the queue area:

Sets 1 - 5: 7 items
Sets 6 - 8: 5 items
Sets 9 - 16: 3 items
Sets 17 - 24: 2 items
Sets 26 - 51: 1 item

The long tail is to handle a three volume tale. Yes, there are 51 more chapters in that set of books. As you can see there is a just short of two week queue now for new work. That's ok, though not optimal. I prefer one week's worth of queue. The less obvious news is that there is room for two new items in set 6, and space for more opens up very fast

Black & White boys has one entry. I have at least one more promised.

The next challenge is previewed on the home page. Not a picture, it incorporates an excellent idea by a forum member.

Timmy, thank you for for the weekly updates.

Three years ago, I was very discouraged with the progress of updates here.  Now the site runs like clockwork (or so it appears to us on the outside)  You and Megaman have done wonders in streamlining things.  Long may the site run smoothly!

I think we were all concerned at the publishing rate. Megaman has created a scheme behind the scenes that lets me publish almost as simply as pressing a button. There's more to it than that, but it is not hugely arduous

Thank you for your praise, I appreciate it. We'll still have problems form time to time, but they are foreseeable, probably!

It took me longer than usual to get today's set out. We had a plumber in to fix our heating. Now, here is the curretn status

Sets 1 & 2: 7 items
Sets 3 - 5: 6 items
Sets 6 - 13: 4 items
Sets 14 - 17: 3 items
Sets 18 - 21: 2 items
Sets 22 - 84: 1 item

Black and White Boys has 2 entries, both of which are good, but that will be your judgement, not mine

Nothing yet for Christmas. Which reminds me, we seem to have misplaced N Fourbois, the maestro of gay Pantomime. No posts on the forum for ages and no new stories.

Today has been personally hectic. I've been under my kitchen sink wiring in a new electrical spur, which is why Black and White Boys has been delayed by a day. And we now have heating and hot water.

Set 1: 7 items
Set 2: 6 items
Sets 2 - 10: 4 items
Sets 11 - 14: 3 items
Sets 15 - 18: 2 items
Sets 19 - 81: 1 item

We need a few more tales.

I do have good news. Doug Smith is back writing again after a lengthy pause

A little light on volume per set for a while:

Sets 1 - 7: 4 items - loads of space for new tales, starting now!
Sets 8 - 11: 3 items
Sets 12 - 15: 2 items
Sets 16 - 78: 1 item

I have been asked to try to explain the cryptic nature of these posts. Let me see if I can:
  • I post seven or fewer items in a set, unless it is a special event like a challenge
  • Where there are fewer than seven items there is space for a new tale, long or short, starting n that set
  • There is no third bullet point

Now, this status is posted on a Friday. That status can change immediately, or not at all, wiut the arrival, or not, of new material.

It is actual work to tell you in advance the content of the sets. This site is a hobby Smile

We  are in the unusual position of being short on stories, though I do have a long serial promised. 49 6,000 word chapter are already complete and more is coming after. The author is just making a judgement of when we might start.

The queue after today's set is thus:

Sets 1 - 4: 4 items. This means that we have space for up to three new tales starting at once
Sets 5 - 8: 3 items
Sets 9 - 12: 2 items
Sets 12 - 75: 1 item

As a reminder, the long tail is a set of sequential tales form one author, followed by a stand alone tale. I do not run more than one tale by the same author at the same time if I can help it. Why? Because different folk like different authors, so packing the sets with the same one removes readership, potentially from the site as a whole.

I'm not desperate for new stories. We can go the next 75 sets as we are if that is the sum total of great tales about at present, though I doubt that. I'm not finding too many good ones right now, so maybe you and your friends can surprise me?

We are still a little light with tales

Sets 1 & 2: 5 items
Sets 3 - 6: 4 items
Sets 7 - 10: 3 items
Sets 11 - 18: 2 items
Sets 19 - 73: 1 item

The Black and White Boys challenge seems not to be attracting votes, and the votes it has attracted seem to be mainly for one of the three tales. None of this is in our control, but it is also weird

We need good stories, gang.

I'm getting pretty comfortable with five items per set.

Sets 1: 5 items. Better not be comfy too long!!
Sets 2 & 3: 4 items
Sets 5 - 13: 3 items
Sets 14 - 29: 2 items
Sets 30 - 64: 1 item

Hmm. Well, that's interesting, but more tales are truly needed

We resume publishing normally on Monday

Sets 1 - 4: 6 items. We have had a pleasant influx
Sets 7 - 21: 5 items
Sets 22 - 30: 4 items
Sets 31 - 34: 3 items
Sets 35 - 50: 2 items
Sets 51 - 55: 1 item

Voting is slower than one might wish on the Sequel challenge, and one tale is lagging in 'in story' votes

The queue is still a tad too long for new entries, but it's decreasing because we haven't had any new entries for a while. The queue is alwasy a paradox.

Sets 1 - 6: 7 items. This means a two week queue
Sets 7 - 11: 5 items. Space for two new entries
Sets 12 - 19: 4 items
Sets 20 & 21: 3 items
Sets 22 - 25: 2 items
Set 26: 1 item

Those of you waiting to see your new work come out will now know it will happen within 6 sets
