As we start 2019, here is the status of the queue, today, 1 January 2019

Set 1: 3 items
Sets 2 - 4: 2 items
Sets 5 - 27: 1 item

The Recovery challenge has ten entries.

We are in a good state for queue length, but not for breadth

We have one new multi-chapter serial running from Monday at present. As I get other tales I will add them to production

The thing about size is that it is the way you use it that counts. Unless, of course, it os so small that it doesn't reach!

We have the length, just not the breadth

Set 1 is for Monday:

Sets 1-17: 2 items
Sets 18 - 26: 1 item

The Non Consent challenge is open for submissions tomorrow, and I am truly looking forward to entries. I can see at least one tale on the site already that I hope will be entered retrospectively

I have not trawled for St Valentine's Day stories. It seemed rude to do so while the site was low on regular tales, but I give you notice that I am accepting them!

Things come along. I am not going to drop quakity for quantity, though. Not ever. So we remain light in breadth but have substantial depth.

Set 1 goes out on Monday

Sets 1 - 14: 2 items
Sets 15 - 23: 1 item

Non Consent Challenge, 2 entries

After today's set we have the following:

Sets 1 - 5: 4 items
Sets 6 - 8: 3 items. I have a lengthy and fun serial adding one to this and the rest of the sets, but it has not yet arrived
Sets 9 - 11: 2 items
Sets 12 - 20: 1 item

We add to Wednesday's set the (currently) two Valentines tales. I hope there may be more.

There are three entries so far for the non Consent challenge

Dear Timmy:

Is there an key somewhere that will allow me to decode these entries? About the time I think I've figured it out I see something that just raises more questions.

Let me try. The queue is like bunches of people queing to get into a fairground ride of cars on a rail track that takes five (ideally) seven (maximum) people per car. If it has to it will leave with one person. There is a gap between cars to let car one get a way round the track before car 2 leaves, and the same gap for car 3. No-one pushes or shoves and there are no golden tickets to jump the queue. At the same time there is a minimum height restriction (story quality).
  • We have a bunch of stories in a queue for release. Almost all of them are serials at present except for the challenge entries are usually short stories.
  • Stories arrive unpredictably
  • Story length in chapters is unpredictable. They are what they are when they arrive
  • I work out how to release the stories. I do this to try hard to release a serial in one continuous stream, one chapter per set. A set is a day's worth of publishing.
  • I try very hard not to have more than one story by the same author in the same set. This is because not ever reader likes every author.
  • The readers stop reading a serial if a serial is released all at once. I have the stats to prove it
  • People would like five story pieces, items, in a set. They would not like more than seven. There are exceptions with challenges and special days.
  • I publish in the order I receive stories. There can never be a dead heat because I use the order in my inbox as the order of receipt
  • Rarely, an author asks for a tale to be released one chapter per week. This can cause me queuing chaos, but I achieve it if I can.

Now I'll throw the problem over to you.  You publish on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You have received the following stories in this order. Build the queue:

A - 10 chapters, Author 1
B - 15 chapters, Author 1
C - 3 chapters, Author 2
D - 27 chapters, Author 3
E - 18 chapters, Author 4
F - 7 chapters, Author 2
G - 23 chapters, Author 5

Two days pass, and then you receive

H - Short Story, Author 2

At the same time the first set in the queue is published. The queue moves forward one step.

Another day passes,

I - 5 chapters, Author 6
J - 18 chapters, Author 2
K - Short story, author 7

And so on. While this is happening days are passing and sets are being published. Sometimes several stories arrive on the same day, other times there are none for a week or more. Out of this you have to build a smooth queue of ideally five, maximum seven items per set. Just as you are on top of this more stories arrive. Or, worse, no stories arrive for weeks. Manage the queue to keep your readers and your authors content

I'm really hoping for some pleasant surprises in my mailbox. I know one author has promised me a four chapter serial.

Sets 1-9: 2 items
Sets 10 - 46: 1 item

I'm told that all sites have few submissions right now, which is odd. Have people stopped being gay?
