A Boy and his Dog.

A boy and his dog; there's just no better team;
when all things considered, it's the ultimate dream.
The dog wakes the boy as he's nobody's fool;
and he waits by the window, till he's back home from School.

And jumping like crazy, around his young Sir;
The dog loves him dearly, there's nothing to compare.
It's off with the school clothes and and on with the old;
The lead's the next job boy, so hurry TAKE HOLD!

They're on Starters Orders, and off through the gate.
And Mum shouts out after them, "Don't you be late".
The street's left behind now, Adventures out there;
Just the boy and his dog now, they haven't a care.

The moorlands are calling, the boy and his dog.
Through wide open territory, Bracken and bog.
The ancient old Parnership of wolf and his boy;
All played out here every day, both brimming with joy.

But time's running out, they must get home for tea.
As they both gallop home, in a land of the free.
"Get your dog fed, then get on round the table.
And do all your homework, as soon as you're able".

The boy bolts his food, and the dog even faster,
He wants to be finished to lay with his master.
With homework all done now, and the day almost through,
This boy and his dog, dream of pastures new.

Great poem, you capture it well. I can see the moors, the boy, and his dog. Beautiful!

You captured the moment beautifully. Every boy should have a dog.

Hear, hear!

This delightful poem transported me straight back to my teenage years.

Thank you William.

I see myself as the boy concerned. Around the age of 11-12, I used to walk and look after a neighbour's black Labrador.
These days I am on my third German Shepherd and I trained them all as my Help Dogs.
Actually another thing that helped to drive the poem, was playing a particular music as I wrote.
Sibelius 5th Symphony 3rd mov/nt. It just seems to go with it.

Hi Jeff.

Thank you very much. And for ALL of your kind words and support.
I have been sat here with a big lump in my throat because of the lovely response to my poems.
It has been a much needed shot in the arm being here. I haven't posted a thanks in the forum, preferring to write a separate thanks
to each one of you. Was this right?

Oh and Jolyon sent me a link to his beautifully crafted story of boys in Liverpool.

See you soon.
Jackboi.

Good poem.  If you haven't already, may I make the humble suggestion that you talk with Timmy about putting your poems in the "Poetry Corner" section of the site?

I would love to have access to a film crew and helicopter for a couple of hours.
Imagine the Set on a wide open space. the film starts as the boy and dog are caught in close-up.
Then slowly moving out and around them. Ariel video takes over circling over those two alone out there.
The music of Sebelius' 5th part 3 playing in the background.
It could be a single stand alone project, or part of a longer movie - whatever.

As I have said before, the music helped to steer my thought, and I saw myself there, as in one sense,
I have been that boy; roaming for hours with a Black Labrador. We would call at a chippy and Beauty would sit there,
hoping to share them. Her characteristic ears brought forward as they do, head to one side.
"Maybe he'll drop one; or the lot".

Jack.
