>What am I to do? I am already maligned in some quarters for the length of my posts - must I make them longer yet to avoid incurring your wrath?

Longer is better, but I do expect a full list of footnotes and references running to at least twenty per submission!

Seriously, Cossie, I love your posts, and if I'm pedantic about tiny little points it's because I can't fault any of your major ones.

My kindest wishes to you and your bottle of Malt.

Like David, I too love Cossie's posts - and the longer the better. And I also love Deeej's posts, pedantry and all (it takes one to appreciate one). And I agree with Brian that Cossie should go easy on the malt. Over and out.

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

In that case, you won't mind me pointing out that "over and out" doesn't actually mean anything (and is not used over the radio, except in error).

In radio parlance,
Over: I have finished talking and expect a reply.
Out: The conversation is finished and I do not expect a reply.

"Over and out" is hence a contradiction in terms. Better just to say "Out".

P.S. I love your posts, too, JFR. Seems there is a lot of mutual love around here!

Seriously, guys - never be afraid to criticise me. On the other hand, don't expect me not to respond! But I really respect you guys, and I hope we can go on having fun for years to come!
