I guess I would have to say that some of my frustration (I hesitate to hate anything or anyone really) centers a lot on the arrogance of some of the people who write computer programs that wont let me decide how and when I want to run that program. I find I have little control over things once I allow a program to install.

Surely you are not attempting to refute the fundamental principle within contemporaneous tiered structures whereunder verbal communication in any retrievable format is to be expanded sufficiently to introduce a level of ambiguity adequate to insulate the communicator from any retrospective allegation of responsibility?

That would mean the end of life as we know it!

Cossie reading this reminds me of the story I heard once about a sign posted by the light switch in an enlish professor's room. It said, "Please extinguish the luminescence upon vacating the premises" and someone had scribbled below after finding the lights on time after time in the room....."Turn out the lights when you leave!".

Ken,
I wonder what Cossie's simple answer to his wife is, when she offers him another cup of tea.

He should have known that it was 'incandescence' and not 'luminescence'!

See the various definitions at:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&lr=&defl=en&q=define:luminescence&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title

Luminescence is 'Any emission of light at temperatures below that required for incandescence.' ... 'Luminescence can be caused by chemical or biochemical changes, electrical energy, subatomic motions, reactions in crystals, or stimulation of an atomic system.'

An electric light bulb is incandescent, because it's very hot.

Unless he lit the room with glowing crystals, or light-emitting bacteria, it sounds like he was just trying to be pretentious. Yes, yes, I know it was a joke, but even so... (shivers)

Mon cher Ecossais Pensif, I too could obfuscate and engage in scholarly perambulations but i would prefer a less sesquipedalian circumlocution of the salient points of the pedagogoical discourse.

Cheers

Allowed? It's practically required - especially in government circles.
