... over here in Europe, US citizens are objects of ridicule when they try to 'Do Yurrup' in ten days. It even gave rise to a hit stage show 'If it's Tuesday, this must be Belgium!'

There's more than enough to see and do in Britain to occupy you for a month or more, and the same is true for most other European countries - but here in the UK you have friends who will do their best to see that you thoroughly enjoy the time you spend here - and none of us want anything except to see you enjoying yourself!

Jay, did anyone ever tell you that in the UK and Ireland we drive on the left hand side of the road and that the majority of British cars still have sticks?

I dream of boys with big bulges in their trousers,
Never of girls with big bulges in their blouses.

…and look forward to meeting you in Cóito.

You almost invariably need to be 25 to hire a car in the UK, Jay.

Unless you find someone who is willing to lend you one and an insurance company that is willing to insure you on it (and insurance would be seriously expensive for someone of your age) you won't be able to drive, either in the UK, or, most probably, in mainland Europe.

Just something you ought to bear in mind before you get too enthusiastic at the thought of driving yourself around.

I also cannot stress enough that the road rules are not the same here, nor in Europe, and that in the UK we drive on the left hand side of the road. If you're young and fairly inexperienced (and especially if you have a habit of driving recklessly), going to a foreign country to drive is not a good idea.

On the plus side British public transport is (supposedly) much better than in America, at least in cities. You can't drive in central London anyway because of congestion, the congestion charge and the problem of finding parking.

David
