Which brings up an interesting topic, by the way...
In Net Etiquette, what is the proper polite reply time for emails from friends? From family? From barely acquainted type folks?
My philosophy is usually that I write when the spirit moves me, and when I have the time for something meaty. Sometimes I'll write little snips when time doesn't permit. Sometimes (like just recently with my poor friend Charlie), I don't even send a snippet for days at a time...
So what is proper, please?

I usually reply to an email when I recieve it, which is usually in the evenings. Apart from today, when I have mysteriously buggered my back, and it is absolutely killing me. So I have been working from my bed. hehehe, I feel such an invalid! Anyway, should be fixed soon. Oh, yeah, David, did you glimpse at the things?

Good question - I guess you have to look at it from the recipient's perspective. I know folks who have e-mail but don't use it much, so a week is fast! My wife and I both are guilty of checking ours at 4 am because we're up to take a whiz.
If I had a job (boo hoo) I wouldn't be checking my personal e-mail much from work, especially this account, my "extra personal" e-mail! Especially if people like Tim keep sending those cute - er - inappropriate .gif's - just kidding, mostly.
I usually reply to stuff immediately rather than letting it get stale, at least on my personal account. At work, it was another story when someone asks a question that either requires some research to answer, or you're hoping they'll forget that topic! Unfortunately, when you're in charge of the mail systems, you can't blame them for eating stuff you didn't want to receive, hehehe.

I hope I didn't upset you by posting, but I wasn't sure, with your move and everything, whether you had access to all your accounts, but I knew you were checking here.
For myself, I try to respond within twenty-four hours, unless deeper research or something in the mail requires it. If I don't have the complete answer, I try to at least acknowledge receipt. Notice I said try, it doesn't always work out that way. But I think it is like a phone call, return when convenient, or promise follow-up. But then, I am the last person to ask about etiquette, just read my posts (the old bull in china shop comes to mind).
Thanks again for your professional perspective to my question, David.
Hugs, Charlie
