I work in Hong Kong now, but Thailand has been home for me and my Thai partner for many years. The bottom line is don't do anything in a foreign country that would be illegal in your OWN country. And don't expect special treatment from police, even if they ARE corrupt. Short bottom line...but don't let this man's interesting but possibly inaccurate story make you avoid visiting a wonderful and enchanting country! Ask me questions about Thailand, I'd be happy to answer them!

The tone of your reply to my story is very saddening, but I guess it's understandable considering the time you've spent in Thailand without problems yourself. The bottom line is, nothing was being done that was illegal either in MY country or THEIR country. No special treatment was expected from the police. Because Thailand lures so many tourists by strutting the world stage proclaiming how welcome you are, I was expecting only normal treatment from the police. Your suggestion that my story is "possibly innacurate" perhaps indicates you didn't study it in detail to learn all the facts stated. Do you really think I would have gone to all this trouble with the website to be a liar and destroy my reputation? The short bottom line is, Thailand is one of the world's most corrupt countries and thus can be a dangerous place to visit. The general population is indeed wonderful and enchanting, but they too suffer at the hands of the people in power such as the police, who are a major problem blocking the country's progress. You often hear foreigners exclaim "I love Thailand" but that expression is just a cover for what they really mean and that is, "I love the free and easy sex life" that exists in Thailand because of police corruption.
