As those of you who are on Tim's subscription list already know, the boyfriend of "Feangol", one of the authors Tim is hosting on his Website, was, as Tim put it, "mugged, hurt, shocked, robbed, but is alive and well, undamaged apart from what he tells me are minor cuts and bruises." Naturally, we are all most thankful that it wasn't more serious than that (although what did happen was certainly bad enough) and that they will both be OK.

Tim didn't say (and perhaps nobody really knows) what motivated this attack; but every time I hear of such a tragedy, it just immediately reminds me of such tragic figures as Matthew Sheperd. Tim placed a link to this message board on that e-mail; and for some reason, after I clicked on it and saw (again) that banner saying, "A Place of Safety", I heard in my mind's ear that song from "West Side Story" ("There's a place for us...Somewhere"). This message board is, indeed, a place of safety on the Web; would that we could also find one in the real world as well. Perhaps it does exist, somewhere, and hopefully one day we will find it.

To "Feangol" and his boyfriend, HUGE HUGS to you both; and may your wounds (ALL of them!) heal most speedily.

And, by the way, if you haven't read Feangol's story, then by all means do! You'll find it on Tim's website here:

Thanks everyone for your concern!

I spent all day with him today. You actually would have to look very close to see the bruises - the ice packs (frozen peas) seem to have worked well. They might colour up more tomorrow but thank god he's fine otherwise.

Motivation was purely greed. Random mugging - he was walking home alone. The mugger had a knife that thank god he didn't use. I didn't get told about the knife until the third phone call cos he didn't want to scare me more (i think he was right there!). Sexual orientation had nothing to do with this attack. The lesson to be learned here is be streetwise and don't travel alone on foot. My b/f is very young and lightly built so that made him a more attractive target I suppose.

One other downer is he now doesn't have a mobile phone so we can't stay in touch as much (you know - text messages every 5 mins etc hehe) But that will be fixed on Tuesday hopefully. We live 1 and 1/4 hours apart so its tough right now, but we have plans to fix that in the longer term.

So thanks again for the kind messages, and everything seems to be ok now until the guy gets caught (police are optimistic) and we get the court cases etc in 6 months time.

Feangol.

Dear "Feangol",

If you keep using bags of frozen peas as ice packs, the only color he'll turn is green!

I'm so glad the situation ended up in such a way that even a lame crack like that one can (hopefully) put a smile on both your faces.

"Feangol", I'm sure I don't have to tell you to take good care of him (even though logistics demand that you two can only see each other on weekends); because with a boyfriend like you, I have a feeling he'll be back to his old self in no time.

HUGE HUGS to you both! ALL the best!

Thanks - he's ok now. I'm fine - I wasn't with him: if I had been it would have been a different story. I'm 6'1 and have a black belt (albeit a little rusty). I really would love to meet the guy who did it.
