I have to take my computer into the police station in 2 days so they can check some stuff on it.
The story is, I was being threatened and harrassed by some weirdo online. They threatened to come after me and kill my family etc etc.

I need to delete all evidence of sites I have visited.
I can delete most of them by going into "Tools" > "Internet Options" > Delete Cookies, Delete History, Delete Temp Files.

But there are a few sites that remain there after doing this.
They arent illegal sites, just chat rooms, and forums that i visit and I dont want the police to see what I do online.
(dont worry, I have nothing illegal on the computer, I am just paranoid)

I am running WIndows XP home edition....

Don't forget to delete cookies. I use the Start - Find - Files and search for e.g. iomfats and ghouldrool or other domain names and then go to those directories (e.g. \windows\cookies) and delete them. I've found some in more than one directory on occasion. Just be sure you aren't erasing any "evidence" they would want, which might be considered interfering with an investigation or whatever.

If you don't do Tim's PGP trick to fill up the hard drive and thereby overwrite any unwanted data so it can't be "scavenged", you can simply copy one or more big innocent files until the HDD is full, then erase them.

If you can program at all, it takes about a 4-line program in Basic or C to just keep writing a file full of "x" or whatever until the drive is full and the program crashes, at which point you can delete the file.

I remember when we discovered in college how easy is was to scavenge the HDD of a mainframe with many users - lots of interesting stuff to be found!

Good luck Adam!

Well, the thing is, you do go to these places and your computer has a record of all that history. Hmmmmm, i think the real solution is not to bring the computer into the police station....

It is after all PRIVATE PROPERTY and all you have to do is to say "no i will not bring it".....

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...
