how is everyone feeling?
(hmmmm... it seems I became the board's regular irregular )
The most amazing thing happened to me the other day. I was walking in a park in the late morning/early afternon, just thinking to myself (who else can you think to?), and I sat down on the grass for a moment. I heard the water from nearby fountain and felt the wind blow around me, so I closed my eyes and just soaked in the sun for a little while. I tuned out for close to ten minutes (as I noticed afterwards) and when I opened my eyes everything seemed better, more colorfull, just happier. I got up and walked around with a goofy smile for the rest of the day.
It really is the simple things that make you happy !!!
Try it out whenever you are feeling a bit down, hey, it can't hurt right!?!
Be good, Gil

Hey Gil -
I know just what you mean about the little things.
Sometimes we just run and run and forget to look
around. A child's laughter, the smell of freshly
mowed grass, the feel of sun on your face; all these
things are out there, we just forget to stop.
I was bodyboarding at the beach last week. The day
was overcast when suddenly, the sky opened and a shaft
of sunlight shot out. It was amazing. I hit a wave
and the day seemed perfect. I think that was one of
your 'simple' moments, right? Thanks for letting me
stop and remember it.

hey gil,
i was out boating today and had one of those moments, and boy i need one of em today. well i was just sitting adrift in the lake and a sea gull came along and landed on the bow of my boat, he just sort of sat there looking at me and i could swear he had a smile on his face. i took a pic of him in black and white and if it comes out (i hope my toe is not that big a part of the shot) i will post it.
over the past week or so i have been on a rather bumpy ride dealing with old ghosts and feelings and i guess who or what ever runs this crazy world though i needed a grinning sea gull to get my feet back on the ground.
thanks for making me think a good thought
hugs
tim

Unfortunately, I live in the desert and would most likely end up getting a sunburn (ouch!). So I'll save my walks for the evening and hope that the coyotes aren't too hungry. Actually I do like to sit on the porch at night watching the stars and the airplanes.
Think good thoughts,
e

Sorry, a bit late on this one. Just back from Wales. Yesterday evening I was sitting out in the sun, all alone, reading good literature, thinking good thoughts, sipping my Cinzano, smoking my pipe (sorry, Lenny, but at least it's not cigs!), looking at the hills looming out of the sea 70 miles away across the bay, listening to the buzzards squawking, watching the shadows of little clouds skipping across the hillside, until the sun set and it grew chilly. Yes, sheer magic.

I did the soaking in the sun thing today. I've been meaning to for a long time but not gotten 'round to it. Since weather's sunny today and I'm not going to the gym either I decided I'll be darned if I was going to spend the day cooped up in my apartement!
I took on a pair of shorts under my jeans and walked down to the nearby lake (15 mins walk), bringing towels and a bottle of water to drink in my backpack, should I need it. After actually getting out I noticed it was a bit windy, but not so much as to spoil it. There wasn't many people, zero exactly at the main beach (which is like 50 meters wide at most), so I continued down a small path to the other beach, which is even smaller.
There were some kids and parents there, and I spread out my towel and undressed, intending to start off by taking a swim. First time I swim in a lake (or the sea for that matter) for six years, haven't done it since I last visited Crete... Water seemed inviting, I'd tested it with my hand on my way there and it was cool but not cold.
Anyway, I dove in from a pontoon jetty, casually noting to myself the water seemed really DARK. After hopping in, it struck me it also felt oily/slimy somehow... Then I saw it. It was THICK with green algae! ENORMOUS amounts of it. Visibility was no more than a meter or so perhaps!
Of course, they weren't dangerous; the lake has permission to fly the EU blue flag to signify high water quality. The reason for the algae is that the lake's water is overnourished... So that was an experience, LOL! I swam just a little to be able to tell people I've bathed this summer, then got out of the water and was absolutely SLICK with slime... GAAAHHH!! I then spent maybe 45 minutes to an hour drying off (and feeling my skin and the hair on my stomach get all 'crispy' from a thin film that felt like dry glue when the algae dried out... ). It was still enjoyable however, the sun was warm and the wind ALMOST pleasant, haha!
On a side note: smith, I can understand your frustration regarding the lack of seasons. I'd go nuts living in a place like yours I think, I was raised where snow started falling in droves in october and didn't go away fully until late april or maybe even into may. My personal negative temperature record is -33 degrees C or something like that...
Anyway, where I live now has lousy winters. Too far south for much snow, too far north for warm temperatures. Might be the greenhouse effect that screws a bit more with the weather too, I'm not sure. Summers sure are good though, when we actually HAVE summer weather that is!
