I've been reading the debate over 'The Story of Tim' with considerable dismay. I'm uneasy about S/M myself, I was uneasy when I read the story, and emailed my unease to Tim and Jack. But I'm even more uneasy that Tim has been (dare I say?) pressurised into ring-fencing the story. To my mind there are just three items in all this to-ing and fro-ing which are of fundamental importance.
1. Tim's post 'There is very little difference' of 12:57:01 on 01/11.02 (to find it in this morass, look under replies to Jack's post), and especially the part in blue. To me, this provides full justification for Tim's hosting of the story.
2. Richard Lyon's comment: 'This is Tim's site. I think he has the right to decide what he wants to present here.'
3. Ien's comment: 'This is Tim's site, he has the final say, I respect him very much and I trust him to make the right decision.'
Amen to all of that.

I too am new to messageboards and have read the postings here with some dismay. I have also read "The Story of Tim" after receiving notification of its posting. I admit, first inclination was curiousity, but I also trust Tim. My curiousity was peaked as I knew Tim to be a gentle man and his warnings in the notification and on the site were different from what I expected.
I am not into SM and, though my ex wife wanted some BD to spice things up, I never indulged. Normally stories that carry an SM warning have no interest to me, but being posted on Tim's site overcame any objections in my mind.
What I read was a love story. Also a story of healing. I have emailed both Tim and Jack about how the story is affecting me, but the SMBD aspects of the story was to me, eye candy (necessary to the telling of the story, but not the underlying theme).
What really worries me is the reaction from GWG. I have read their guidelines, and totally agree with them for the GWG site. However, there are other stories on their site that have deepy troubled me, much more than this story. Two which come to mind are "Broken Facades" and "You Cant Go Back". The violence in these stories goes much further and are more gut wrenching than the spanking or whipping in "The Story of Tim". But I do not object to their posting (with considerably less warning) on the GWG site, in fact welcome them as anyone who reads them will come away with a new perspective (hopefully better).
Just my feelings from someone who probably doesnt know what to expect from this posting.
