Really getting into it

Midnight last night, as we were heading for bed, we heard a hissing sound in the kitchen.

Under the house the main incoming water main has sprung a leak.

Under the contract with the water company I am responsible for the pipe between their stop tap and my property. At 1am i finished digging the ants nest out from above their stop tap and finally turned the water off. I am not waiting and waiting and waiting for the tradesman my insurer has selected to call me to arrange to come.

I am, of course, without water.

To rub it in, we flushed the toilet this morning, and the flushing handle snapped off.

I bought a new one. It is a standard tank with stanhdard hole sizes and the new handle is standard. Naturally it did not fit.

On saturday I am likely to have a large trench between the road and my front door, no water and maybe 30 people here to celebrate my birthday. I must admit to being unamused.

If the timing wouldn't be so bad I'd say that blows...so now I can't!

Well, I really hope you'll get things sorted somehow. Maybe you could like run a hose from one of your neighbors or something...? (But you've most likely considered this option already I suppose.)

Not that this really has anything to do with the unfortunate accident that befell Tim (Sad), I just wanted to share this...

Not to say "it could have been worse than having your house springing a leak" or anything like that, just a bit of everyday weirdness:

Newspaper reports a Swedish thirteen y/o was bitten by BATS in his bedroom while asleep.

Here's a pic of him, with fang-marks and everything: http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/0208/01/NYHETER-01s10-bett-72.jpg

Well actually, seems he was asleep, and then woke up and slapped at the bats, which then proceeded to bite him before flying off... Damn rodents! Smile

Houses are fun, aren't they? I've had one plumbing problem after another for the past year. Malfunctioning toilets(x3) that can't be fixed, broken water line(x2), leaky water heater, I'm probably forgetting something. The toilets are the worst. You'd think they would be simple enough to fix, but I can't seem to find the right parts even when I take the old parts to the gigantic home improvement warehouses, fight off the crowds of people, comandeer a "salesperson", and give him the old parts to match with new ones. When I get them home, they don't fit!!! I've one semi-properly functioning toilet. I've given up on the others and am calling a plumber. But at least I've got water and I don't have 30 people coming.

Think good thoughts,
