I have two reasons for posting this rather long piece. One is to demonstrate that despite what you see nightly on your TV screens life goes on here "as usual". Secondly, the singer who is the subject of this news article sometimes visits the US (to perform for Israeli ex-patriots). He is one of Israel's second or third rung pop singers. If you come across one of his performances in your country you'll know what to do.
Here is my translation of the newspaper article (it was longer and I've "edited" it "for your further delectation".) Please let me know if this posting was a complete waste of everyone's time and patience and I won't do it again.

The Association of Homosexuals, Lesbians, Bi and Trans is starting a campaign against the pop singer Ariel Zilber following his harsh remarks against homosexuals. The singer also severely criticized seculars, leftists and kibbutzniks - and he even called the whole nation “a shitty people”.
“Being gay is devient,” said Zilber in a provocative interview with [our newspaper with the widest circulation]. “If you don’t bring children into the world there is no reason to be with someone. OK, gays can adopt a cat or a dog or a child. I’m not saying they should be killed. Let them live. I respect them - but not in our school [a phrase used in report cards to the effect that a pupil can go up to the next grade provided that it’s in another school].”
Zilber also shot his arrows in other directions. On secular people: “They only buy things [consumerism] and get AIDS.” About kibbutzniks: “They’re SOB’s with their noses in the air.” About the left: “They’re spitting on our country.” ...
Ittai Pinkas, the chairman of the National Homosexual Association said in reaction: “I am surprised and very disappointed. Particularly since in the past Zilber appeared without remuneration in events organized by the Association and co-operated with us. In my view it is very dangerous when every so often some public figure makes extremely harsh comments against our community. We’re not looking for trouble, but if Zilber doesn’t see his way to make a very public apology we shall maintain our right to publicly demonstrate what we think of the things he said.” Ms. Michal Aden, a member of the Tel-Aviv municipal council and chairperson of the Gay Forum of [a left-wing political party] said: “In the 21st century there is no place for racist comments that derive from sheer ignorance. Zilber must apologise to us.” Among other things the Association called yesterday for a boycott of the singer’s appearances and albums and announced that a protest group would accompany him at all his scheduled performances - until he apologises...
Last [Sunday] night at 2130 the first anti-Zilber demonstration took place. About 100 activists of the Homosexual Association gathered opposite the Camelot Club in Tel-Aviv, where Zilber’s appearance had been planned several weeks ago... They carried placards on which was written, among other things, “There are one billion gays alive today” and “Ariel, have you forgotten? ‘Betty Bam loves ‘em all’ [the title of his greatest hit].
