My apologies to everyone for using the MB for a "private" message. What follows will explain.
Warren, My computer is going (present tense!) into 'hospital' to be upgraded, because Windows ME made for a very unwell computer (and a very unhappy and frustrated owner). It should be back on Sunday and I will respond to you then. In the meantime, Tim can show you what I threw together in five minutes. It was only a demonstration (and I have already deleted it).

I share your grief, Steve. Windows ME caused my system to die a most terminal death; and since I use my computer for both "work" and "play", I had no choice but to walk into a local electronics department store and pick up a new one off the shelf (at least yours can be resurrected!). Even though it all but broke me, it's a reputable brand with some nice features (which will hopefully last me a lot longer than this last one did!).
Best of luck!

Somehow, and I'm not entirely sure how, I missed the entire Windows'Me debackle, as I'm somewhat of a techno-junkie.
I do feel your pain though, having recently gone through my third migration on my Server with Window'2000. The first two attempts failed because of difficulties I encountered getting Windows'2000 to respond to what I wanted rather than what Microsoft thought I wanted, and a sort of no man's land in between that I didn't ever think was going to be bridged.
Alas with the disabling of the Windows File Protection system, a few un-authorized bin-hex edits of significant *.dll's, and a cautious application of the third Service Pack all seems to be well again.
I live in terror of the forced migration to Windows'XP and the attendant loss of user-defined control of their system that prevails should I ever have to.
