At "The Shack" is a tribute to a young man who died by his own hand a year ago.

We all meet such young men. We cannot tell if they will die. But we can do our very best to help everyone we meet who is in pain and simply be there for them. We will not always succeed. Some will be lost, and we will grieve. But we can be the very best friend we can be for them.

No judgements, no controversies, just unconditional friendship, and safe, non sexual love.

Comicality expressed it by saying:
"I want you guys to say a prayer for all of those people who are lost, who feel there is no way out, and who have been shown the most painful side of life. Do something sweet for someone, even if you don't know them, tell someone you love them....."

You never know what someone has gone through, how their world has been rocked. A smile, a laugh, a friendly word can make someone's day brighter.

My friends here have 'saved' my life many times over by being just that.........my friends. I can never repay the love and gentleness given to me, a kid who came here with a broken heart.

i have not been on the board in a few days cause i have been busy being a friend.
recently i found myself once again in the market for a room mate, not that i need one but i hate to be alone. well to make a long story short i meet a kid on line, his name is keith and he is 19, and his life up to this point has been one shity thing done to him after another. he has been used, abused, coned, and all in all screwed over, he is now my room mate. he came here a week and a half agoa to visit and check me and my home out, he likes the situation and i like him. not like i want to get into his pants like but he seems like the kind of kid that really wants and needs help. he'll be living here for free while he goes to college, which he has already applied to.

ok to the point, while we were talking he asked me why am i helping him and what is it that i want from him... my answer is the same one i have given over and over... a long time a go some one was a FRIEND to me and helped me and the only payment he ever asked for was to pass the kindness on.

i know in my heart that i can never ever pay back my friend the kindness that he showed me and how he saved my life...but i can spend every day paying him back by passing some kindness on.

What you said about friends caused me to really think last night when I read it. If I look back on my younger years and I could say that I have one regret. Regrets are a bad thing because, unless you are Captain Kirk, you cannot change the past. However, if I could change something, I would have wanted someone to talk to about who and what I am--especially my sexuality. I would be a very different person today if I had done so (or someone had tried to talk to me). So friends are good, but friends that you can really talk to are what so many of us need but don't have.

Enough with my surmon,
Cheers,
Darren

You are all so kind here. It really gives me hope.

The fact that you try to help, is more than most people in this world do. It's hard when that help does not work. But you have made the world a better place already.

You have my admiration and respect,
Much love to all,
Kevin

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the offer and I do use use this messsage board for that. However, my main person to talk to is my wife. Before I told her that I was gay, I could never really open up to her because there was this total fear of "it" slipping out.

hugs,

Darren

hey its all good bro...just letting you know (and every one else) that there are ALWAYS options and others who do care for and about you all just because of who you are, the what gay str8 bi or what ever does not make any differance, the who is a person reaching out for help.
