I have just looked at my employer's policies. Look:

BEGINS:
Treat Fellow Employees With Respect and Dignity. You must avoid any comments or behavior toward others that may reasonably be regarded as harassment, or as reflecting bias on the basis of race, religion, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation or disability. See the policy entitled Policy Regarding Mutual Respect (Avoiding Unlawful Harassment) and *******'s Equal Opportunity Statement for more information
ENDS

and

BEGINS
********* is committed to the prevention of any and all forms of harassment in the workplace. Harassment is defined as offensive comments or actions based on one's personal characteristics, sex, race, color, age, national origin, veteran's status, marital status, sexual preference, religion or disability.

Sexual harassment is defined as any unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors or any conduct of a sexual nature when 1) submission is made explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of employment, 2) submission or rejection is used as the basis of employment decisions, or 3) such conduct has the purpose or effect of substantially interfering with an individual's work or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment. Sexual harassment also encompasses improper teasing, uninvited touching, or sexually related jokes or comments.

The Company has been and will continue to be an equal opportunity employer. No associate will be discriminated against because of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, citizenship status, age, disability, handicap or veterans of the Vietnam era status. Applicants and associates will be evaluated solely on the basis of job qualification. The Company is firmly committed to the principle of affirmative action and to the employment and advancement of individuals in these categories.

Oddly since all categories are mentioned I fail to see how we can be"firmly committed to the principle of affirmative action and to the employment and advancement of individuals in these categories", but I LIKE the tone.

This is a US headquartered global corporation.

This says "I cannot be fired for being gay", nor can anyone harrass me for it.

Unfortunately, those policies should be the norm. ut in the state I live in it is expressly legal to fire or discriminate someone simply because they are gay. I am trying to change that by getting people into positions of power that will change that.

I am glad some of you do not have these predjudicial laws and rules in place where you are.

Best wishes to all,

Kevin
