Hey All .... I won ....
I won a seat on the executive committee for the Michigan Democratic party. This means I will have more influence to steer the party in a more liberal, pro-gay, antiwar direction. I may not change the world, but I am one drop in the waterfall that makes "our" world a better place. At least I am making a difference in this little tiny corner of this rock we call The Earth.
Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement.
Much love to all of you,
Kevin

They become mighty oaks! Way to go, Kev!!!
For the benefit of those of you who do not live in the United States (and therefore don't know), it might be useful to remind you that the "opposition" party in the United States (the Republicans) love nothing more than to label the Democrats as the devil incarnate (especially those un-Godly "queers"). Truth is, they are precisely the type of people Jesus looked upon scornfully and said, "Oh, ye hypocrites!" It's also a safe bet that they (and Drew, I hope you can take some comfort in this) were the school bullies of yore; and unless they rehabilitated, that trait only became worse as they got older.
Anyway, I digress. Give 'em hell, Kevin!

I think that you are doing a great thing here. Although I am not American, I was quite saddened to here that many Democratic candidates were touting Bush's agenda for fear of losing their seat. Many lost anyway, but compromised their ideals too. Anyway, I am ranting, and the point of this post is to congratulate you on a job well done!

You care SO much and will try your best to change the world. Every choice we make causes a ripple and, as the ripple widens, change begins. YOU will make a difference, Kevvy Your heart won't let you do anything else.

This is more of an internal party manegement position. In December we will elect the internal party leaders for our state and counties. I of course will look at manegement skills and a more liberal ideology. Pro-gay and anti-discrimination candidates will be givin higher priority and funds if I have any say in things.
This will be a position where I can "nudge" the party leaders towards issues that are important to me. Also I will have a greater say in what the agenda for the party is on policy. I want the party to get some balls (pardon my frankness) and stop playing to the center all the time. Take a stand for God sakes!
I am just a lil bigger drop than before hehe

Saw the news item about the new leader. Quite a lady. Not sure I agree with her politics, but as an alternative to Bush a breath of fresh air.

Congrats, Kevin! Sorry I'm so late.
I know I'm a little odd - okay, that's an understatment, but as someone in the system, I wanted you to know my voting methodology. If I don't know anything about the candidates politics, I vote for whoever seems to do the least mud-slinging - I know others who do this as well.
Failing that (didn't seem to be enough money for mud this year) I tend to vote for the minorities - women, Libertarians, etc. just to "send a message" and maybe counteract some "good ol' boy"-ness. Although I'm also giving some consideration that a minority-party vote may be a vote the Democrates could use this year, although I tend to be non-partisan. Hmm. Hope some of that made sense!
