I am not keen on them.

It feels like there is an intruder in my house.

I recognise the reason we all use pseudonyms here, but some pseudonyms cause anxiety too.

With an anxiety-causing pseudonym I feel that I need to look behind all the doors. Please do think when posting anonymously about the anxiety you may cause inadvertantly

By definition, lurkers do not post. The "Masked Lurker" is thus an oxymoron.

Define pseudo-anonymous, please.

I post here (when I post, that is) with a nickname, that I got from a book. Some people here know my real name, and them I have asked to keep it to themselves. So am I pseudo-anonymous?

What I mean is things like "Just a friend" or "anon" or any other name designed to mislead rather than identify.

There is a difference between a pseudonym and a deceit. Impossible to explain except to the person doing it, who knows that they do it to deceive instead of to identify.

To me, it's inconsiderate to "switch identities" - it seems like playing "mind games" to me.

If it's worth saying and you are contributing to the conversation, why NOT use a consistent "net personality?" I think all the regulars here are willing to accept each other's differences, quirks, mistakes, moments of distress, etc.

So, even if we need to say something controversial, we should be able to hear it and when necessary forgive each other or agree to disagree. If it's "too controversial" or for whatever reason we're unwilling to use our "normal" persona, I think we should reconsider posting at all.
