We have been authorized by "Philip" Stephen's father-in-law to advise that Stephen has had a medical emergency earlier this morning, and now lies in a comma in hospital.
Stephen had been admitted to hospital this morning for a routine procedure as it had became apparent that he was continuing to suffer some internal bleeding as a result of his injuries from earlier this month.
Brian and I have spent the better part of this evening "walking" Philip through the procedure to "voice" enable a computer, and have successfully shown him that it is possible, and that he will be able to do it again.
Philip, in the morning will be "borrowing" the use of a "voice" enabled and modem equipped Laptop on which Brian and I will again walk him through the installation of the Yahoo! Pager client.
We seriously need "voice" enabled members to come forward and provide TIMMY with their Yahoo! "User I.D.'s", so that they can be added to the applet at the time of initalization.
Once enabled, it is our hope that we can be able to keep a steady stream of A Place Of Safety Residents talking to Stephen in a round-the-clock 24/7 marathon to help bring him out of his comma.
Please, all of you who are capable of doing so, do come forward.
This will work!
It is up to us to make it happen.

I really appreciate your efforts. My prayers will be with Stephen, more than ever.
A technical question - I know nothing about IM's - is it feasible/practical to either create a new, spare user ID to be "shared" by us for future use? For example, I don't have a mic on a computer now OR IM software installed and others may be in the same boat.
Another possible thought, and I'm overly tired and just thinking aloud - it should be trivial to create .WAV or .MP3 voice greetings and have WinAmp or Media Player or whatever repeatedly loop through them or maybe direct them into his audio messenger/chat software?
Of course when he comes out of it, the poor guy might smash the laptop in order to get some peace and quiet!
Please, also, thank Philip for us. He is an extraordinary man to help Robert as he is while dealing with his own grief, I think.

My prayers for you Stephen. May god bless you with quick recovery and good health.
As for that wonderful idea I’m afraid that I am not “voice enabled” but if you guys decide to go with Trevor’s idea of recording an MP3 greeting then let us know.

... will be welcomed from anyone who is incapable of participating directly, for whatever reason.
Kindly e-Mail either Brian or myself for the User I.D. and password for my Domain's FTP-Server where you will be able to upload the file(s) in what ever format (*.mp3, *.wav, *.asf, *.wma, *.wmf amongst others) that you are capable of creating them.
One way or another Brian, or I, will get them broadcast, just as though they are "live", with Stephen being none the wiser for it.
To make it practical, recordings should be of approximately 10-minute duration, and be "you" introducing yourself to Stephen by name and where you're from, and your then simply speaking conversationally about everyday things - your interests, hobbies, a movie you've seen recently, a book you're reading - just as though you were sitting at his bed-side.

Crying happy tears in all the sadness.
That was really beautiful, the words and the music and the graphics...! Simple, yet beautiful and wonderful. I like your website, Rick.
Absolutely not an overstep. I feel a little easier now after reading what you said there on that page.

This is straight from Philip, Robert's father, whom is back from the hospital visiting Stephen:
"He has had a number of scans and they are showing distinct brain activity. they have suggested that Stephen is in a "deep sleep" and that his brain is working - almost as though he is havingone long constant dream
They don't know if he can hear anything that is being said - but the activity of his brain patterns shows stimulation at the tmes he is being spoken to. It is a fantastic sign."
I Agree! It IS a fantastic sign, and Warren, Brian and others are expending a lot of energy arranging a plan where we might get to speak to him via pre-recorded messages to be played back at his bedside. Stay tuned for more of this! Philip also tells us his doctors say Stephen may react favorably to hearing his favorite music, so if you have discussed music with Stephen, we ask you to please get in touch with Warren or Brian.
Now a little ramble:
Much love to you Stephen, and wishes for a speedy recovery! I so wish I could be there at your side... We'll talk soon though!
Hugs:
-Lenny

Though hopes and dreams be shattered,
And life difficult at best.
Through your struggles and tribulations,
You seem to get no rest.
But Stephen you have the power,
All all of our support,
To will yourself back to life.
Your return we shall exhort.
You've meant so very much to us,
And we would gladly take your pain,
If only God would grant our prayer,
And make you smile again.
To you, Stephen, this one good thought,
We send upon the wind.
With all our love and all our heart,
We pray for you to mend.
Think good thoughts,

Ok, it's about 1:45 pm US time, and i've been informed that the tests are showing improved brain activity. I was also told that one of the nurses say she heard him mumble something. So far, she is the only one that has heard anything. They are playing recordings of his favorite group "The New Seekers".
We'll keep you posted as things come in.
Thank you all for being here.

Hi Brian,
I have been emailing with Stephen and I was about to send him another message. I was shocked to find out that he is in the hospital again. My fingers are crossed that he will wake up soon. I wish I could be there.

I have just chatted with Robert's father, and this afternoon while they were visiting Stephen, he MOVED.
They stopped in just to share this information, and left just as quickly so they could return to the hospital. He said he would be back later if anything else has changed.
He was telling him of all the well wishes he is receiving from his family here at A Place Of Safety when he moved.
keeping you informed
Brian

... in Philips own word I quote:
"Stephen's movement is increasing. He is also mumbling, though no coherent words at present. I have left him listening to Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House" an audio play, with plenty of thers as back up. Brain activity is strong and he is reacting to being pin-pricked by the doctor's. Stephen has smiled - he has opened his eyes and smiled! There is a God."
As I was typing this message Philip took a telephone call. He reports:
"Margaret has just called from the hospital to tell me that Stephen moved again, his raised his hands and pushed away the headset. He did not wake up, but Margaret said he grimaced a little as he pushed away the headset. She said it was almost as if he was trying to tell us "Enough, already!"
