Yes, quite true, though sometimes an unexpected twist ending can be a great way to end things when done right. I was just thinking about some of the great twist endings in movies. Think "The Empire Strikes Back" ("Luke, I didn't kill your father, 'cause I am your father!"), or "The Sixth Sense" ("I see dead people...and you're one of 'em!"), or the original Charlton Heston version of "Planet of the Apes" ("Wait, we were on Earth the entire time?!"). There's a reason they're so iconic.

Yes... I'm hardly ever a fan of this kind of literatry ploy at the end of a story. In fact I hate it. But c m pulls it off quite admirably and it makes the story what he's been building it to be all along. The hints were there if a person cared to notice them. Job well done.
