I just sent "The Misfit" to a man who used to work for me. He writes novels and dramas and sent me some of his work to look at. I chose the "least controversial" and sent mine to him!

I wonder if he wil guess that I am gay? if he does, i wonder if he will ASK!

Does that story scream of "Written by a gay man"?
icon12.gif Yup, it does scream, Tim. But in a GOOD way! hehehehehehehehe  [message #766 is a reply to message #765] Thu, 07 February 2002 14:18 Go to previous messageGo to next message

It wasn't exactly screaming "Gay" though! I mean it's not as if I sent Chris and Nigel! Wink

I don't think a straight man would write that story, Tim. Sorry.

On the other hand, a straight man might not be aware of this fact. You could say with perfect truth that the story comes from the experience a gay man you know, and he might buy it...

Actually, there's lots of erotica about gay men written by women, mostly straight. Most of it is fanfic. And when I say lots, I mean lots. But I suppose your friend probably wouldn't believe that you're a straight woman...

One of the best authors of gay teen fiction I know was a 14 year old girl when she wrote them.

I have no idea if this guy will even work it out. He was perplexed when a gay man hit on him, and half flattered, so he is not the stereotypical str8 man! I am not sure I even mind if he knows. But it wil be hard for him to work out since he's met my wife and son.
Then this is the time you could mention being "straight-curious"? heh  [message #776 is a reply to message #775] Thu, 07 February 2002 23:09 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I have always been curious about that phenomenon. There are some examples on Nifty of non-scifi as well. I wonder if this is somehow related to the fasination that some lesbian erotica holds for some streight men. Any thoughts?

If you like MEN, then the more the merrier!

I can even persuade my wife to watch Bel Ami gay videos. Mind you I think I get more out of them than she does

In general women do not seem to be keen on two guys geting it on. Not like str8 men are supposed to with a lesbian couple. Mind you, women do not seem to like a penis either. Not to look at, anyway

Women gererally seem less likely to be sexually aroused by visual stimulation than men. Writting gay stories would connect with relationships which seem to be a "thing" for women.

Supposedly the fantasy for men watching a lesbian couple is that he could moved into the middle and dominate both of them. I wouldn't know from personal experience. Doesn't do a thing for me Smile.

I think straight women like gay erotica for the same reason straight men like lesbian erotica. We visualize ourselves in the middle - ah, the imagination is a wonderful thing. Now, guys don't generalize so about woman - there are a lot of women who love the male body (and all the attachments). Plus, it's an escape from a lot of their dull sex lives. You never see an overweight, out of shape man in gay erotica. Reading it, you would think all gay men live at the gym - hehehehe. Hi, Tim - haven't chatted with you in a while - take care.

I wasn't talking specifically about science-fiction fans - fanfic is a generic term for fiction which uses other people's characters and situations, usually TV shows (Buffy and X-Files and favourites). There's a flourishing subgenre of Harry Potter stories, for example. When there's gay or other non-standard sexual combinations involved, it's called 'slash' (as in 'Harry/Draco' etc).

Here's a good example:

Kimberlee Gasper

(Some of her stuff is quite kinky but it's all flagged. Not all the stories there are fanfic.) She writes some of the hottest gay sex scenes I've ever read.

When you ask woman fanfic writers they tend to say that man/man sex scenes are hot, and muse that they reveal a vulnerable side to the men involved, which they find touching.

For a really great story, read Kim and Deidre's series entitled Randy and Michael. Whew, have to stop and fan myself!!!!!! Her mb is primarily straight women who are having the time of their lives reading the story.

Absolutely! I've got Randy and Michael open in another browser window right now - posting that URL reminded me I had hadn't visited them for a while...

That's how I have started out writing gay erotica, by writing slash fanfics. About Savage Garden. I still read them. There are a lot of good stories out there. Also about these so-called boybands. Those stories have lost its fascination for me (to write them that is) after I had written four, i think. That's when I changed to that original fiction stuff which I am still writing. Esepcially with fanfiction there are by far more females writing thsoe stories.

love,
brian
