Elsewhere on this message board Tim posted a message about the plight of a gay couple in Jerusalem. Please find his message and read it.

I do hope that many people will respond to this call. I am sure that every response will make a difference - especially those which are explicitly from outside Israel. Ariel Sharon is at present indisposed and resting on his farm (and according to the news items he is thoroughly enjoying it), so he should have plenty of time to read all your e-mails. Perhaps some general background would help.

In the Palestinian Authority gay men are treated according to Moslem law, which is draconian, and the lives of those who are known to be gay are not worth living. Therefore several hundred Palestinian gays have found refuge in Israel (!) where the atmosphere is incredibly liberal in this matter. The gay organizations in Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv help these gay people find a permanent safe haven - usually in Germany - but some of them inevitably form liaisons while they are in Israel and don't want to separate. The case mentioned in Tim's post is within the purview of the Minister of the Interior: in Israel's present coalition administration this minister is an ultra-religious bigot (and that's putting it politely). The only hope this couple have is that Sharon will be so inundated with protests and petitions that he will act to by-pass the ministry of the Interior.

Hey, guys, it's up to you!
