OK, maybe Tom Lehrer was out of place in Judge Moore's house, but a light-hearted thread does a power of good, and not only to David. And releases the nostalgia that wells up in us geezers as we totter harmlessly into senility (bet that raises a protest or two!). So what about a new dedicated thread?
TL himself allegedly remarked, when Kissinger was given the Nobel Peace Prize, that there was nothing left for the satirist to say. I fancy his day was a golden age for that sort of thing (Peter Sellers - was he much the same time?). But has the art of satirical comedy/take-offs faded? I'm just not up in the later scene.
Remember this one?
I hold your hand in mine, dear,
I press it to my lips,
I take a dainty bite from
Your luscious fingertips.
My joy would be complete, dear,
If you were only here.
But still I keep your hand for
A precious souvenir.
Do they make them like that any more?
