Really getting into it

Midnight last night, as we were heading for bed, we heard a hissing sound in the kitchen.

Under the house the main incoming water main has sprung a leak.

Under the contract with the water company I am responsible for the pipe between their stop tap and my property. At 1am i finished digging the ants nest out from above their stop tap and finally turned the water off. I am not waiting and waiting and waiting for the tradesman my insurer has selected to call me to arrange to come.

I am, of course, without water.

To rub it in, we flushed the toilet this morning, and the flushing handle snapped off.

I bought a new one. It is a standard tank with stanhdard hole sizes and the new handle is standard. Naturally it did not fit.

On saturday I am likely to have a large trench between the road and my front door, no water and maybe 30 people here to celebrate my birthday. I must admit to being unamused.
