To all concerned authors, webmasters, readers and surfers,

As of the first day of summer... June 21, 2001…

We at the Gay Writers Guild are pleased to present a program of awards in several categories (listed below) of Literature and also in Website design.

In as much as The Gay Writers Guild is a gay related literary website, naturally all submissions for awards must be gay in nature, portray the gay lifestyle in a positive light, or be work in any genre by gay authors.

If you have a website, or know of one, that might qualify for an award by meeting the criteria listed below, or If you read a story, anywhere, that you feel deserves one of our awards, please submit it at http://www.gaywritersguild.org. Just follow the links and fill out the form completely.

The awards submission page will be operational beginning the first day of summer, June 21st, 2001.

Please do not submit entries prior to the kick off date.

Literary awards will be presented quarterly, with an annual award in each category chosen from the pool of quarterly winners. Website awards will be presented within fourteen days of submittal with an annual Best of the Web award in each category.

Annual awards will be announced on August 3rd each year following the annual business meeting of the GWG/AWW.

We at the GWG / AWW hope that this awards program will place proper recognition where it is due.

Criteria for Literature

In as much as The Gay Writers Guild sponsors this awards program, the basic submission guidelines of the Guild will stand as a guide for the Awards Criteria.

1.) Works attributed to the author should basically have a theme of love and romance. But, works in any genre, with any theme, by a Gay author will be considered for an award, and will stand on it's own merit as literature.

2.) Stories may be bisexual or nonsexual, although the GWG, hence the Literary Awards Program, is primarily intended for gay love stories.

3.) NO stories involving rape or coercion, graphic violence, unwilling participants, dangerous sexual acts, bestiality, water sports, snuff or skat will be considered.

4.) NO story involving intergenerational sex, i.e. sex (between an adult (18+) and a minor (<18) can be considered for an award.

5.) Being that we are a literary organization, we at the Gay Writers Guild must insist that copyright laws be honored. Therefore, any story, which includes mention of any copywritten material, must include the proper authorization. This includes the use of characters from movies, TV or other media.

Criteria for Sites, They must be:

Explicitly GAY

(It is not enough to state in the submission "I am gay")

Fast to load

Easy to navigate

Very good in content

Pleasurable

Must avoid:

Frontal nudity or pornography

Hate-racism-violence

Just links & just 1 page of text

Password protected parts

Adult verification service (AVS) access

Points that will give you positive marks:

1. Loading fast.

2. Easy to navigate (not just a back button)!

3. The number of pages that compose the site.

4. A pleasant layout, easy to be read text (not too small and not on a confusing background).

5. Good and original images, fast to load (not too many animated GIFs in the same page).

6. Content of the pages (not just links)! It must be informative, useful, interesting ... perhaps fun or moving...

7. The links must be clearly marked, and have a short, but good explanation of what the surfer can find going there. Just a list of names, logos or URLs earns to the site very few points...

8. The HTML code must be correct, and it is important that the tag for an image contains an alternative description (alt=" ").

9. Be "user friendly" (see below the "negative marks").

Points that will give you negative marks:

1. Over utilization of Java scripts (not all the browsers can see it, and often it causes the browser or the computer to freeze).

2. Use of frames (it becomes a positive mark if the user can choose frames or not-frames).

3. Use of music (it is really annoying to be forced to listen to what the webmaster likes, and not to what the user likes)! No negative marks if the music can be stopped, or even better started, by the user.

4. Too many animations (or an animated background with too vivid colors).

5. Broken links or broken images (a few could be forgiven, if they are external links; but not broken links to the pages composing the site)!

6. Pages too long to load (too many images in the same page, or a way too long text content...).

Submission note

These guidelines will apply to all stories and websites submitted, in whole or in part.

Decisions of the judges are final.

Submission of a website or a literary work for a Gay Writers Guild Website or Literary Award is easy. All you have to do is go to the Gay Writers Guild website at http://www.gaywritersguild.org and follow the link to the awards submission form. Fill in the blanks and hit the submit button. We will evaluate your recommendation within seven days and notify you as soon as we have made a decision.

Thank you.

The GWG Awards Team.

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...
