I play(ed) a lot of Diablo II on my computer up until a little while ago. I probably will start again once the new patch has gone live, but for now I'm taking a breather.
However, I still visit my fav D2 fan site regularly, and today I went there and saw that Goldni (real name Mike), a guy from the forums whom I had spoken to and read many posts by, had been killed in an automobile accident.
He'd been out with his girlfriend on their way to go pick up some albums when the car they travelled in was rammed by a speeding driver. Mike, who was sitting on the passenger side where the other car impacted, received multiple broken bones and internal bleeding. He later died at the hospital.
A thread was started on the forum by Mike's brother, that's why I know of it. In one of the replies, someone posted what I pasted below. I don't think it's true about me, but it was still a beautiful thing.
I didn't know Mike very well at all, but I still feel very saddened by this. Reminds me how fragile our existence is on this globe, I think. How easily we're extinguished, through no fauit of our own. If the other driver hadn't been speeding quite as much (80mph, the brother said), or if Mike's girlfriend had driven a little quicker herself, or a million other things had happened, the two cars would not have been at the same place at the same time and Mike would still have been alive.
Like I said, I didn't know him very well, but I still feel bad about it. Here's what I found in that thread:
1. At least 5 people in this world, love you so much they would die for you.
2. At least 15 people in this world love you, in some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you, is because they want to be just like you .
4. A smile from you, can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
6.You mean the world to someone .
7. Without you, someone may not be living.
8. You are special and unique, in your own way.
9. Someone that you don't know even exists, loves you.
10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.
11. When you think the world has turned it's back on you, take a look, you most likely turned your back on the world.
12. When you think you have no chance at getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you believe in yourself, you probably sooner or later will get it.
13. Always remember complements you received, forget about the rude remarks .
14. Always tell someone how you feel, then they'll know.
15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they're great.

direct my sail."

Hurting for others, whether they are your best friend or a stranger shows that you are are caring person. Of course, it's important and of course we care.......about you, about Mike, about everyone who loves him.
Yeah, we've all felt that, the brush with fate. "If I hadn't looked, if that truck hadn't stopped". I feel so sad for his girlfriend, who will have to live with the "what ifs".
And here's a "what if" for us:
What if those 15 statements are true......what if you have the power to make them true.....You know, actually, you DO !!

Many of the things on that list apply to you. More, probably than you think. You just have to see it from the others' point of view, and not your own...
I know that's hard sometimes. I've been having a down day today, too. With the SARS virus out and about, I am laying low. It's grey and rainy outside. I still have 12 weeks to go until I am back in Thailand, so I'm feeling lonely and bored.
I don't know anything about the world of Internet gaming, but I spent the day watching old movies, trying to cheer myself up by thinking more positively. So I watched "Lucas", 1986, young Corey Haim and Charlie Sheen feel-good coming of age movie. "Stand By Me" because I was reminded of it in the movie quotes thread the other day (thanks again smith). And "Where the Water Runs Black", about a Brazilian orphan trying to get back to his home in the Amazon jungle.
Tonight I'll order in a nice meal (Do other urban areas have the equivilant of Hong Kong's "Food by Phone" deliveries from local restaurants?) Too expensive to do often, but tonight it will hit the spot. And to watch while I try and enjoy the solitary good eats, I think Errol Flynn's early version of "Robin Hood" and (if I'm still not dozing on the sofa) Errol again in the swash-buckler "Captain Blood".
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?
Why not?
And if somebody tells me what kind of new computer to buy in July, I'll be able to learn IM'ing and such...that might be fun, too.

It is nto the first tme I have seen this, but it is the first time it was made relevant. So, I have also placed it at http://iomfats.org/inspir.htm#fifteen
I don't know how many of you have been to that page. It certainly isn;t the most frequently visited onthe site. It is worth a look.
