I am currently in the process of assembling a listing of Gay Genre Film. To date the list tops over 500. As in any project of this type, multiple eyes and tastes work to a greater end.
So I ask.......
If you know of any obscure films, actors, directors, film companies of Gay and Gay Genre film please email them to me at Marcthevad@sbcglobal.net.
Any input would be appreciated....
Also, if you know of any places where this message would be of benefit to this task, please forward it.
Thank you,
Marc
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

I'm looking for better movies.
If they fall into the category of XXX but is of exceptional merit it will be considered.

Terrific movie about the history of gay film and the industry. Hilarious and educational both. And the list of credits and references of sources, if I remember correctly, is quite long and detailed. That film alone provides a huge territory to cover.

I figured there would be more films to be added to the list.....
It is all right to also recomend "feel good" films as well....
If there is a movie that moves you in some way.... Well that's OK too....

Have a look at Coyoteee's site http://www.coyoteee.com "You are Not Alone" was a milestone that went sadly unnoticed. He has several others there, too.

About 1/3 of my video library is at our house in Thailand...so I'll have to dig thru the drawers when I get there in July. If I don't remember, don't be shy about remonding me.
By the way, do you have "This Boy's Life" on your list, with a young teen DiCaprio as the step-son of a sadistic Robert De Niro? There is a very sweet friendship with a gay best friend, and the kiss on the piano bench is memorable.

Just as I posted the previous reply, Man called for his nightly phone chat, so I had him take a look. "The Orphans" Mosfilm Production, 1983. Cast includes Yousas Budraitis, Georgyi Burkov, and Aliosha Cherstvov. And you should have listened as Man tried to spell these out for me! You owe him big time, Marc!
You must also already have "M. Butterfly", "Priscilla Queen of the Desert", and "Too Wong Foo" with Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze, right?
Also don't forget "THe Priest", might be Irish, could be British, I don't remember. Another British film was called Peter's Friends" with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson (and Rita Rudner, the stand-up comic, I never saw her in a movie before...)
Ummm...let's see here, as I flip thru the cabinet..."Fried Green Tomatoes", with a powerful lesbian couple. "The Color Purple" with Whoopie Goldberg (and Oprah?)
"Man of the Year" about the 1992 Playgirl Centerfold of the Year (true story) who got outed or came out, or something like that.
"We Were One Man" (German flick, WWII soldiers)
"The Outcasts" (Taiwanese film, in Mandarin with sub-titles, movie made from the book "The Crystal Boys" which everybody on this MB is guarenteed to LOVE reading if you can find a copy) FABULOUS film about a fey bar owner and his "family" of gay street youth. They make a real home with each other amidst huge adversity. I cry whenever I watch it.
"Macho Dancer" (Phillipines, in Tagalog, English sub-titles). Another really GREAT film about the lives of 'rent boys' working in a Go-Go bar in Manila. It created quite a stir in the P.I. when it came out, got banned all over the place, which proves that it's good and hit a nerve. Incidentally, amazing dance scenes in that one... Pecs and abs for days and baby oil and loads of slithering together in shower scenes, all on stage...
I'll think of more if ya want...this is fun...
Has anybody else seen any of these movies, or are they in my library only cuz I live overseas, or what?

Boys in the Band, of course...
Victor Victoria
Maurice
Torch Song Trilogy
La Cages Aux Folles I, II, and III
The Birdcage
Mass Appeal, Jack Lemmon mentoring a young bi priest
And the Band Played On
An Early Frost
Arabian Nights (in Arabic or Turkish, can't remember...hehe)
One of Pedro Aldomovar (sp?) films called El Deputado, Spanish
"For a Lost Soldier", Netherlands (sub-titles again), very politically incorrect, adult/youth taking place in WWII. Love story, not about abuse.
***DON'T watch the next three if depressed or an abuse survivor unless you're prepared for very strong stuff, please...
"I Know My Name is Steven" true story about a young boy kidnapped and kept for years, eventually excapes, how he tries to adjust to life back with his family...VERY scary and sad.
"Abuse", 1973, US, teen actor called Sbarza. Film-maker making film about a teen being physically abused by parents, they fall for each other. The theme is asking the question of what is abuse and what isn't.
"The Boys of St. Vincent" Canadian film, chilling and awful, about an orphanage in Newfoundland and the abuse litigation brought 20 years later. True, which makes it even more gut-wrenching, and important. Gave me bad dreams after watching it.
****Please PLEASE remember my advisory notices about those three films above****
Very sweet film by Louis Malle, in French, of course, "Au Revoir Les Enfants"
Kids (Guss van Zant film, pretty discouraging and depressing, actually)
"The Lion in Winter" (Richard the Lion-hearted was gay...)
"Little Big Man", Dustin Hoffman with a native American transgender after him...great acting also by Chief Dan George
"The Full Monty" has a gay couple in it, eventually...
The documentaries "Before Stonewall" and "The Life and Times of Harvey Milk".
"That Certain Summer" with Hal Holbrook as a gay Dad coming out to his young teen son.
Brideshead Re-visited...amazing mini-series, awesome scenery, music, acting was awesome...
Boogie Nights
Consenting Adult
The Dresser
Another Documentary, called "Drag Time"
Dreams For An Insomniac
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Intimate Contact (British early AIDS mini-series, excellent...)
In and Out
Lust in the Dust (with the famous and outrageous "Divine")...a must-see for sure
ANYTHING with Divine, actually...
Lord of the Flies (the 1963 one is better than the re-make, I think)
Meatballs
My Beautiul Laundrette (another VERY good British film)
I'm tired now, more later...
OK?

I've seen both. The re-make I watched in school so that is most recent in my mind, the black-and-white one I only saw when I was a tiny kid and it was scary as hell. Or was it only in black-and-white because my parents had a black-and-white TV once upon a time? Too long ago to remember.
Anyway, I liked the remake. Wasn't as scary, but then again, I was more than twice as old too. Might have been more than three times as old actually. I undressed the "bad" boy with my eyes, man he was gorgeous, and considering he wears almost nothing towards the end, that was quite a feat I guess.
Very real and scary story though. Shows the human mind isn't that sophisticated after all. Brr! *shivers*

Amazing Mr. Ripley, I think?
Also, Marc, check out "Total Eclipse", about the gay poet Rimbaud, played by DiCaprio, perhaps his best acted film ever.
And of course the old "Oscar Wilde" movie, and the more recent one with Jude Law's buns on view. hehe
