The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5 year phase-in plan that would be known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of the"k". This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be ekspekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent "e"s in the language is disgraseful, and they should go away.

By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi to understand ech ozer...

**Still giggling...**

Good Lord, "e", you ARE a quick learner...

I'm glad you aren't silent.

How's the unpacking going? I've just had the shipping companies come give me quotes for my move back to Thailand. Thank God I don't have to worry about mechanical parts like you did. Door to Door movers...that's what I like, for sure...

And odds are, some of the moving men will be fun to watch.

Hiya, Andy! Yup, this'll be waaay easier for ya, fer shure.

I liked this funny because some languages go to the other extreme. I'm going to try to learn to read and write Thai when I move back. I speak it ok, but haven't learned to read it. The Thai language has 56 letters...twice as many as English! That's because each and every sound has it's own letter, and there's no way you could ever mis-pronounce anything once you learn it.

So you can see what problems there are for people like my boyfriend learning English. Aaa...ahhh...ehhhh...

Hehehe

**Also giggling**

I'm not so sure about being a quick learner. You don't know how long it took to type that message.

I took yesterday off. I wish I could do the same today, but I'm afraid it would never get done. It looks like I'm renting a truck on Sunday and a couple of in-laws are coming to help with the big stuff. I'd love to have professional movers come get everything and do it for me, but I can't afford it.

Think good thoughts,
e (Not silent on the topic of being not silent)

Hi again! I couldn't possibly afford to pay for the door-to-door movers thing either, it'll cost something like US$4,000...

It's just another feature of my great current work contract that I'm giving up, all for luuuv...hehehe

I'm a bit worried that I won't be able to learn 'em, too! But when we were in Nursury School (or whenever) I'm sure we all worried about learning the 26 letters of the English language, and look how easy it is (for most of us...) now! And 60 million Thai people have managed somehow. So if a little Thai kid can do it, maybe I can too. On the other hand, little kids' brains work such that they can learn a language very easily, much faster than a teenager or an adult. That's pretty cool, huh?

At least it's not the same as having to learn something like 4,000 different Chinese characters just to read the newspaper...UGH for sure on that deal.

And not only do I have to learn the 56 letters, I have to memorize which vowels are used with which consonants, stuff like that, there are a couple hundred rules to learn...

And the letters are all wavy and squiggly and artistic. Very beautiful to look at, graceful and all. But to learn to write them will take dozens of hours of practice. Some people concentrate more on reading and give up on writing very much. Not me, tho. After all, if I decide to drive, wouldn't it be good to be able to to read the signs that say, "Danger! Bridge Closed!" Hahaha!

True, kids do learn fast other languages. I remember it took me about a year and a half to learn English. I mean i did not know a word of English. Now i can read, write ( i don't know about writting), and talk English pretty well. At least i think so.
I would love to learn another language but i found out that teenager and adults take more time to learn because we want sound perfect and not make mistakes. In other words, one tends to think about what other people might say. While kids on the other hand simply don't care if they say something wrong or not.
