"Girls Teach Teen Cyber Gab to FBI Agents
As undercover assignments go, posing as a teenage girl online to catch pedophiles has its share of challenges for the typical FBI agent."
"During the past year, the three have been teaching agents across the country how to communicate just like teenage girls, complete with written quizzes on celebrity gossip and clothing trends and assigned reading in Teen People and YM magazines. The first time the girls gave a quiz, all the agents failed.
"They, like, don't know anything," said Mary, 14, giggling."
"The girls were recruited after one of their fathers, an agent involved in the pedophile investigations, watched her instant messaging a friend and couldn't understand what she was typing. He realized that FBI training wasn't enough."
Please check out the article for quite a lot more interesting reading on how the good guys work to catch the bad.

I understand that its agents of the federal gov thats engaging in this entrapment.Perhaps you do not understand the mindset of this corrupt government.Give those bastards an inch-let them get their toe in the door, and they will take a mile. The federal gov has no business on the web except as a source of information and that is all. This is not a flame and I am not slamming you,but goody two-shoes do manage to sell their fellows down the river and garner my deepest contempt.Keeping pedos off the internet is a good idea, but its not gonna happen my friend. Its gonna take parents, guardians and other leaders to get off their fat lazy asses and educate (one on one if that is what it takes)these foolish kids about the dangers out there on the web.Further,I am very surprised and astonished by your stance. What do you think will happen when our corrupt government sets the machinery in place for this plan? You can bet your sweet butt that it will only be a short period before the gov forbids gay stories and other helpful gay web resources.Mister KNOW THY ENEMY.Its our own gov and those religious bastards that spread their poison. rob

The girls are meerly teaching the FBI agents how they communicate...
In essense it is another language...
Just like French or Greek....
As far as paedophiles go.... There should be no quarter given.
That goes for str8's or gays....
Children have to be protected from preditors....
And there can be no argument to that notion.
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

The government has a duty to protect our children.
In your statement you yourself admitted that our leaders need to get involved by saying.....
"Keeping pedos off the internet is a good idea, but its not gonna happen my friend. Its gonna take parents, guardians and other leaders to get off their fat lazy asses and educate(one on one if that is what it takes)these foolish kids about the dangers out there on the web"
After all, it would be better just to remove the danger.

Protecting children from mind deadening religious bigots would also be a good idea. Those foolish enough to believe that the federal gov should be in the protection business need to get a grip on reality and put the skids on idealistic thinking.I am not gonna get personal here marc but this conscious, breathing and thinking reasoning man will sooner ROT IN HELL before letting the boyscouts run the world.Pacicifs garner my contempt. They are spineless wimps that havnt a clue. Its just simply wrong to give the gov this much power. There has to be a better way. rob

There is nothing wrong with idealistic thinking especially when children are concerned.
The federal government is in the business of protecting the innocent whether you enjoy the idea or not.
Religous bigots are surely a entity to watch... But dirty old men wanting to slide their hand into the pants of unsuspecting children are a bit different wouldnt you say? I would think they need to be agressivly sought out.
There probably is a better way, but until someone finds it what we have is all we have. By the way, when someone does find a better way, more than likely they will have been government employees.
Like it or not, the government has this much power. The megastructure of governmental bureaucratic mecanics are far too complex and too farreaching for any individual from the private sector to affect any lasting change.
Therefore if you want to change the way things are you will have to run for congress. But then again wouldn't that be going over to the other side?
Perhaps, perhaps not.

Hey man.... Im a damn boy scout and so is Steve so lay off.... Plus I agree with it. I mean seriously.. And a second thing Religion doenst physically hurt children. Preditors can. Anyone who is of a strong enough mind can change there own opinion about Religious beliefs. There is absoulutly no reason why children should be 'protected' from religion. For some of us it gives us purpose and is a very very very good hting...

Children should be protected from all who harm them, sometimes even if the child enjoys the experience that does harm. That is a "given".
That given has often also been misinterpreted by zealots as a licence to persecute those with whom they do not agree.
A Scoutmaster, a schoolmaster (and the female equivalents, for women also abuse) who abuses a position of trust shoudl not be allowed to continue in that profession. One who simply looks on, without touching, without hinting, without any hint of harm: What of them?
This is somewhere further on from the original thoughts. Of COURSE it's valid to train out enforcers of law and order with the best posisble weapons in a fight against crime.
At the same time, who limits their power? Politicians think they do, but it is obvious that they do not.
Without writing a treatise here, Robert is right to be concerned, and Marc is right in his drive against paedophilia. And one might think the two area to be unlinked. But each time a child is abducted and harmed, each time sexual abuse in children's facilities comes to light, gay men cringe at what may next be in store for them. Because we gay men are seen as paedophiles by the media.

thanks Timmy for putting this issue in proper perspective. As most sex abuse issues start in the home and most abusers are either parents or a close relative,it should be made a federal crime to abuse a child--with some serious prison time delt to both parents--say 20 years hard time.Do this, and I will support Marcs idea about policing the internet. rob

i am still in the scouts cuz I enjoy it and so does Steve. It's a fun thing to do we get to go camping like every month and learn funs tuff. Just cuz someoen becoems a scoutmaster doenst mean they suddenly hate gays. I mean as long as we arent making out in front of them or somehting Steves people don't even mind me sitting with him like we did at the last camp out we both were at. Maybe some of the people higher up hate gays but it'snot necessarily the majority at all.

An abuser is usually very clever. It rnages form "this is our secret" thorough "no-one will believe you anyway" and "You asked me to do it, so it's your fault" to the far more specialised.
A young man I met here, online, some years ago told me his abuser told him "Your parents have borrowed money from me. They can't afford to keep you without the money. If you tell, then I will get the money back. And since they can't keep you I will get you anyway, because they've agreed I can adopt you." he was six years old.
The parents were blameless. Not even stupid. Blameless. A prison sentence for them would have been totally counter productive since they were the bastion the yong man relied on after it came to light. And it only came to light because he talked in his sleep.
That abuser stayed out of jail. I do not understand why. I tried myself to get him put away but was met with a blank wall by the two US police departments whose juridictions it fell under. They needed the testimony of the victim before they would lift a finger to investigate. He cannot, like so many victims, testify. Those who can are incredibly brave people. Most of us would not have that courage.
The parents are usually the last to know. Unless they are the abusers.

I am probably an "overly protective" parent, and my wife even more so. The reason is we cherish our children and do want to protect them from the evils of the world. On the other hand, sometimes I feel like we don't give them the opportunities to learn from their mistakes, to grow up and be their own persons.
It is tough when you are legally responsible not just for the welfare of another, but in some cases for that person's actions - there have been some recent laws passed where parents were fined for their children's truancy, curfew-breaking, etc.
When I was a kid, I did some "pretty typical" things even though I was almost a perfect child - which would appall me if my kids did them. But, is it fair to not give them the opportunities to make mistakes, to live a little?

There are very few things I have done in life that I regretted afterwards. There is only one thing I can think of and it involved someone who use to be my best friend, still is we jsut arent so close naymore. I have been really lucky. Growing up I hvanet had a bed time, curfew, or very many restrictions. My parents have always been very liberal with the three of us now they are looking back and wondering if it was the best thing they could have done. I have made mistakes and learned my lessons very quickly. Hehehehe. (Attemtping to jump across a 4 foot wide river that wasllike 3 1/2 feet deep that was a bad thng to do Even though I hear it was funny as hell to watch me) Actually most of the mistakes in life I made involved water of some kind...
Hmm I guess I believe the best thing my parents ever did was not try and restrict me to anything. I guess that wound't neceassarily be true about everyone though. I know a lot of people *cough coughc* my neighbor who would probably be dead right now if her parents ahdnt kept a close eye on her. Oh wells I have completely forgotten the topic now so I'lljust end by sayign Monkeys are Good!

darn good points timmy.however if those parents had the threat of prison time hanging over their heads, perhaps they would have been more attentive to the threat to this boy.(they would have smartened up).As far as the scouts goes,It takes real guts to stand for something. That Coza lad is a hero in my eyes. Not mincing words-he tells it like it is.I guess it takes real courage to stand against bigotry and hate. From all the posts on this thread,I am very impressed with most.perhaps there is hope. rob

Still woudl not work. The abusers are too clever. I have met many victims. In each case they were so totally bamboozled that they were very effective in concealing all that had happened and was still happening.
Please be careful when apportioning blame to parents. Victims of abuse come here and read and gain more fear.

They are not yet wise enough in the ways of the world to be able to judge addequetly who is a friend and who is out to entice them into acts or behavior which is not in the best interest of the children.
Rob, I am not saying that the authorities should go about acting unchecked.... Not by any means.... But in this country, we have a series of checks and balances designed to protect the innocent and prosecute the guilty. It may not be a perfect system, all systems need improvement from time to time, but it seems to be the best we can do at the present time.
I know gays continually get (wrongly) caught in the middle of the debate concerning the "type" of person is likely to persue unwary children and coherse them into unwholesome activities.
I realize that parents try to do their level best to protect their children from the darker side of our society and rightly so. I also realize that a parent can not be constantly looking over the shoulder of their children on a 24/7 basis.
As children enter adolesence it is their nature to want to spread their wings a bit abd parents are caught in a catch 22 so to speak. In effect.... Parents can keep a tight reign on their budding teens and attempt to endure with all the rebellion that goes along with such restraint, or, the parents can adopt a policy of liberalism and rely on the quality of the upbringing they provided for their children. Either way it is a very hard decision to make.
Just for the record I want it understood that....
I believe preditors should be persued with all due haste and with swift and severe justice.
I also believe that our system is not by any means perfect.
Furthermore, I believe that as our system of justice works as well as any other present system on this planet or perhaps a bit better than most.
I wish that as a group, gays could be thought of as people, just like any other group of people, with some good, some bad, some smart and some average, white, black, and so on and so on..... just as people.....
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...
