Found this by sheer coincidence as I logged out of my hotmail account and ended up at the evil, evil MSN site...

Check it out, guys: http://www.msnbc.com/news/924401.asp

(Damn! Makes me wish I was 17 again, hehehe. Very Happy)

Yeah like noone cared at all that Steve and I went together. Hehehe Some girls thought we were silly but we said they were silly. Plus there was already two girls from his school that ewre together dancing on the floor already. Not many people noticed to much cuz we dont dance so we were just chillin for a lot of the time. Yeah it was good. If only it hadn't been on a baot. Yucky moving objects Smile

Went to our "prom" together, even though it was just called an "end of year dinner" and wasn't anywhere near as expensive as a prom. It was pretty uneventful, by that stage most people were used to seeing us together from other school dances and things. The worst we got was a few comments from some rural guys trying to act tough, a couple of guys dancing together mockingly and a few girls asking us to kiss, but overall it wasn't too big of a deal...

Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.

As wonderfully reassuring as that article is, it still shows how that acceptance remains so terribly "regionalized".

While you and Steve were (thankfully!) able to attend his prom together and be shown the due respect which allowed you to have a wonderful time (like that couple from Syracuse), there are those from other areas who are not granted that same courtesy (as was the case with those two girls in Utah; and there are, sadly, so many other areas where a certain religion becomes so entrenched as to be allowed to keep others from being shown the same respect they expect for themselves).

Sadly, we as a society still have a long (long!) way to go; but happily, this article does show how far we have come.

Thanks for sharing it, Lenny.
