10 days. That's right, only 10 days, and the last day that's even in double digits! Wow!

And this morning I'm going to pay my final bit of taxes so I can leave the country legally. YAY!!

Plus, now I only have to count on my fingers...toe-zies are finished with.

was when I graduated from High School. I got to go on a terrific trip for 7 weeks (9 countries). It was also supposed to be a study thing, so we were chaperoned by a passle of old bewildered nuns. They didn't have a clue, which always mande me laugh, and allowed us basically to run wild all over Europe.

I wish I'd been out of the closet then...there would have been a whole new dimension to that trip, huh? Hehe

That is very interesting, you are going to Europe too. I might go, actually i will go next year. I hope you tell us all about when you come back.

Do you know what part of europe are going to? I know from my school they go to Paris, several cities out side of Paris, can't remember the names and also they take kids to Italy, Rome to be more specific. When i get to do it, i know will have so much fun.
Yay for cool countdowns!  [message #11652 is a reply to message #11630] Sat, 21 June 2003 08:08 Go to previous messageGo to next message

And here's a bit of possibly good news that I'm trying NOT to get too excited about yet...

You guys know that Man and I are looking for a nice city place to live in during the week, while keeping our house down by the beach for long week-ends and holidays.

Well, lots of the places we've looked at so far are either dumps or too expensive, same as in any other big city. We'd like a small house on a quiet back street, with easy access to public transportation and the Skytrain that will whisk me to my new office. We want a house rather than an apartment because then Man will have TWO gardens to play with, which is one of his main joys in life.

Well, a good friend of mine just told me that a small house in his family compound might be available soon. He comes from a very prominent and wealthy family, and the compound is about a city block square in size with only 5 houses in it. My friend has one, his father has another, his brother and family has the third, one remains ready for his sister's occasional visits from the US. The last one hasn't been needed by the family, and has been rented to various people they know.

If we get it, it would be amazing. The place is within walking distance of the Skytrain, and the whole compound is terrific. As you go thru the security-guarded gates, it becomes an oasis in the midst of the city. The high walls keep the city noises out mostly, and the gardens are already great. Man would have a field day there.

Wish us luck...there are any number of things that could go wrong with the deal...my friend says other family members may have people in mind, it might be too expensive or need too much repair work. But my fingers are crossed...

I've been dealing with my list of used stuff I'm trying to sell, loads of phone calls from an Internet advert...and paid my last local tax yesterday (you have to have a release letter from the Revenue Department to depart from here at the end...)

Still have heaps of paper piles to sort and sift, both at home and at the office...

But it's all good!

Still having lunches and suppers out with people who want to see me before I go, and that feels surprising and good to me.

And one more good thing...yesterday, the World health Organization declared Hong Kong SARS free, as we have had no new infections in 20 days! Yay for that!

Hey, Andy! Great news about passing history!

Well, at least you won't have to repeat that history course next year (I hope not, anyway).

That English grade doesn't surprise me; that chem grade makes me jealous [Wink]; and that math grade should be the least of your worries.

As for German: well, you weren't really planning on becoming Ambassador to Austria, were you? [Wink].

Happy summer!!! [Smile]

After thinking in terms of "months" for so long, it's down to just ONE WEEK!

Do us a favor if you can, David: make the last thing you do with your computer just before you disconnect it is a last message here to let us know that the next time we hear from you it'll be from Thailand!

If we don't hear from you before then: {{{bon voyage!!!}}}

Look at the amount of work you did and use it to judge your approximate marks for next year. One reason I did quite well at school is because I was a cocky arrogant kid that set high goals, knew my own ability, then worked as hard as I felt like to achieve those goals. You did do a pretty good job at guessing your marks, except that you said "maybe" too often instead of "probably", you need to be more positive Smile

Also, stop stressing so much, getting worked up over bad marks doesn't help you at all, if you're going to do badly you're better off at least not getting stressed over it and enjoying the other parts of life. That's just my advice in regards to school, I think you did great, though, as long as you have the marks to get into the course you want, that's all that matters, there's no reason to get straight As unless you want to be a doctor or lawyer, it's a waste of effort that could be spent enjoying life, in my opinion...
