Man's father died this morning. So Man has dropped everything and gone to the family home near the Cambodian border. It's called Kanchanaburi, and is only famous as the real-life site of the "Bridge Over the River Kwai" which they made the movie about (WW II, Japanese occupation, hundreds of prisoners of war died).
It's weird, actually. Man doesn't know any of you, but I do. And you all only know about him thru me, but it feels to me like he's sort of involved here on the MB as well, despite the fact that he may never post a message of his own.
Buddhist ceremonies take place for three nights, with the body in this case being at home, kind of like an old-style Irish wake. That will be Friday thru Sunday nights. I'm very sad that I can't be there for him when he needs me the most. This was a shocking bolt out of the blue, but at least he wasn't sick for a long time. He just had a heart attack in his sleep and was gone...kind of like I'd like to go, come to think of it.
I'm glad, at least, that I'll be there for him when he gets back to our home on Tuesday...the same day that I arrive. We each seem to be good at picking the pieces up for each other.

But you're wrong David....
It has been a long time, but I used to talk with Man almost daily. When my hard drive crashed on my old computer I lost all the ICQ contacts and haven't spoken with him since....
I really miss his calm serenety, and I miss his funny stories....
Now I remember,,,, I used to type to him very slowly so he could understand my english a little easier....
I know it doesn't really work that way,,, but it did make it easier for me to understand him...
I will say a prayer for him and his dad.... In the Buddist tradition...
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

I too wish you could have been there for him, but you will be soon! Soon, and always. Well, not while you're at work of course, but you know what I mean.
More hugs.

I'm so sorry for Man's loss. It was quick and he didn't suffer and for that his family can be grateful.
There are no coincidences, so your arrival will bring Man the joy to smile.
Buddhist Peace Prayer
May all beings everywhere plagued
With sufferings of body and mind
Quickly be freed from their illnesses.
May those frightened cease to be afraid,
And may those bound be free.
May the powerless find power,
And may people think of befriending
One another.
May those who find themselves in trackless,
Fearful wilderness-
The children, the aged, the unprotected-
Be guarded by beneficient celestials,
And may they swiftly attain Buddhahood.

I am sad to hear the news and will be thinking good thoughts for Man, you, and his family. You may not be able to be there for him in person, but I'm certain that he knows you are there in spirit. I do feel as though I know him and that he is part of our family.
I think you may be wrong about Kanchanburri(sp?). Aren't they also famous for their sapphires?
Think good thoughts,

It is always hard to loose someone close. Sudden death is even more shocking because one does not have time to prepare and say goodbye. So that is why we must show our love every day.

At least there will still be joy amidst the sadness.
My sincerest condolences to Man and his family (and to you as well, David). You will indeed be with him when he needs you the most.

THanks for reminding me about that, Marc. I'll post Man's and my icq numbers in a couple of weeks...if I forget, remind me again!

Thanks heaps, everybody!
And a big thanks to those who sent emails, as well. It's very kind of each of you to take time out of your busy days to express warm wishes.
When Man returns from his family, I will show him this thread, and maybe convince him to overcome his shyness and post something himself.

Sapphires and also rubies.
I have a sapphire ring that Man had made for me for our 5th anniversary. I'm getting him a ruby for Christmas this year, thru one of his relatives.

One thing I don't remember about my conversations with Man was any shyness....
He always was a bit apprehensive about his english.... But it was never an obsticle for us....
