Sorry to hear things have been going downhill 'round here.

Didja have a lot of fun? I certainly hope so! Hopefully, Europe was good to you and left you with a good impression of our continent.

Tell me please if you met up with Ien, if you didn't I have to wave a finger at you sternly and say bad Tommy, bad! Smile Ien's such a great gal.

Hugs:

Not really, though. Razz

The bulk of the trip was spent, obviously, in Germany. I stayed with Bastian's family, who lived in a village outside of the city of Aachen. I stayed there for about 2 and a half weeks. During that time, the group of Americans took day trips to the cities of Aachen, Cologne, and Monschau.

During my stay with the family, they took me to Belgium once and The Netherlands twice. Bastian's father also took me to three castles in Germany! Unfortunately, I didn't get to visit pretty Ien. Sad I figured it would be tough to work out a meeting with her since I was pretty much committed to and dictated by the plans of the family. And the boys in Belgium, my God! ::fans self:: I saw about a handful of boys in the town of Eupen, and every single one of them was to DIE for! I have a new goal in life: move to Belgium. Wink

After the stay with the family, the Americans all went to Munich for 4 days. Munich was really nice. Took a bike tour and hike up to the castle Neuschwanstein (the inspiration for Cinderella's castle at Walt Disney World), a bike tour across Munich, and a short trip to Dachau, the first Nazi concentration camp.

One day during our stay in Munich, we went to Austria, too! And we went to Salzburg, where they filmed...brace yourself, smith...The Sound of Music!! Hehe I got to see all the places where they filmed the movie, including Nonnburg Abbey, the cemetary where they filmed the flight from Germany scene, and the town square before they sing 'Do Re Mi'. We even drove through the famous "hills"! I must admit, I was humming "Maria" as we visited the abbey! Later in the day, we visited a stunning like in St. Wolfgang and took a boat ride with some amazing scenery.

It really was what I'd consider a trip of a lifetime. I had such an amazing time. I get such a wonderful feeling everytime I talk about it, even as I type right now. Totally incredible.

But I think 3 weeks was enough for me. I'm really glad to be home. I missed everyone! Smile

A most memorable journey, indeed! I'm so happy for you, Tom! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! (Although I must confess that, between Belgium and Salzburg, you've made me more than just a little jealous [Wink])!

As for what's been going on here...well, let's put it this way: now that you're back, things can only get better [Smile].

Welcome home!

Thanks for sharing your trip! I am SO unworldly, and frankly scared of international travel, but you did make it sound like fun.
