We think we have got it right, but we want to make sure.

...Where was the "I'm not sure" alternative? Smile I voted for no difference, but like I said, I'm not sure. I'm on broadband, this site has almost always loaded fast. The board was a bit sluggish in the past and have been again occationally when the previous host was having 'issues', but mostly it's smooth sailing.

Btw, is the email list having trouble again? I almost missed you posted up my story because I got no announcement... Smile Thanks Timmy, glad you liked it... *hugs!*

We are negotiating with the service provider about batch sizes and intervals between batches. We got "send blocked" for 24 hours and are now allowing the qwueue to empty 10 emails at a time every 10 minutes.

I have not yet been able to announce the story Sad

Since I switched to DSL a couple months ago, I have had no problems with loading speed on either the old server or the new one. I answered the survey that pages load the same.

I have had one problem and that is I cannot access the email account with Outlook Express. I can access via webmail, however.

Think good thoughts,
e

Email is a little awkward, there is a lot to do to get it right.

If you can email me with the exact wording of the Outlook Express problems I will sort it out. It MAY be site certifictaes, but since you can use webmail I doubt it.

There may just be a box not ticked

Is your host SURE they can handle the awesome load of ONE ENTIRE EMAIL A MINUTE? Smile Okay, so the list is pretty big now and you sent a couple announcements these last few days, but man, if they can't manage that then maybe they should look into upgrading those 486-33MHz mailservers they got. Smile

Thanks again.

Ah. well we managed to send 1600 in 15 minutes, and rather snowed on the mail server. I pressed the send button twice. Left 400+ in the queue and got all email turned off for my pains.

We're negotiating.

Good servers, very powerful We're using http://www.ispserver.com and have an eConom VDS in Florida, and administer it totally ourselves, creating the whole enviromnent. Wow, I even sound as though I know what I'm talking about.

We can tune the mailing list software. We're just trying to work with them to know the batch size, gap between batches, # of simultaneous connections etc. They want us to move to NY for an 11 Euro a month price hike, which I can't afford, so we're talking.

The instructions have partially fixed the problem. I can now log on and read email that was sent to me. However, I can't send any email from Outlook Express. I get this error:

"An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'mail.iomfats.org', Server: 'mail.iomfats.org', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '500 Unsupported command.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 500, Error Number: 0x800CCC62"

Webmail continues to function properly for incoming and outgoing mail.

Think good thoughts,
e

Don't fret too much, e. I have exactly the same problem: I can receive mail but cannot send mail. (I use a mailer that I have been told is somehow based on Outlook Express.) I can send mail from my Neph account if I use the SMTP of my ISP instead of going through @iomfats.org

An old addage says that shared troubles are halved troubles. Do you feel your trouble is halved now? LOL

we THINK this is because your ISP refuses access to any except its own SMTP servers. If you use your regualr ISP's SMTP server thsi will work (99% probability). We're checking, but it won't be until late pm UK time

I don't think my troubles are halved, but it's nice to know I'm not alone. Though I suppose you're not happy to join me in this one. Wink It's not a real big deal, though I like to have things work properly if possible. I only use the account to receive and reply to mail about my stories. since I haven't finished any news lately, I haven't been getting much mail. I can also send from my hotmail account if I need to.

If it's an ISP limitation then nothing will get through it. if it's a setting that needs changing then it can be changed. if you email megaman saying when you are likely to be around we can try to set up a test session.

Remember we are learning too. We've set up a secure socket layer email server and loads of stuff not available elsewhere, so we're running pretty hot stuff here.

I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't working properly on your end. Could well be me or my ISP or something else. I can be around almost anytime so just let me know whenever it is convenient.

The site seems to load much faster on my dial-up connection.
No matter what I click on it all seems to just snap instead of slowly coming on like it used to.

I had the same problem.

I think you'll find that the problem is with norton antivirus on your machine, scanning the outgoing email. if you go into antivirus, to options, and turn off the scanning of the outgoing mail (keeping the scanning of the incoming mail on), the problem will go away.

all the best.
