So yeah a girl I knew from church graduated this year and was all ready to go to west point. She passed all the fitness requirments with flying colors. Unfortunitly it seems when she was younger she broke her ankle, it healed and they thought she was good now. Well I guess from the rigors of the first 5 weeks of training it got to the point where an injury she described to her parents as a sprain prevented her from continuing.
It got bad enough that the officers were telling her she couldn't go on the marches/ running excersizes and required her to stay behind. Well at the moment she is waiting for the army to officially dishcharge her. It's sad I think she had so much potential and tried so hard to not let her family down. Now her family is just sad she is coming home again in one piece but I guess it's dissapointing for them. When her parents spoke to Sarah on the phone, all her officers explained that she simply excelled at everything and that ifit wasn't for her ankle she would have been a great cadet.
Right now while they are waiting for the discharge to go through it's hard becuase Sarah is not sure what she will do for the next year. She had had a full scholorship to the University of Michigan for ROTC. However since she had turned that down and it is now to late to get her into school noone is quite sure what will happen. I guess I will be seeing her again sooner then I thought.
I had no real intent in mind when I wrote this I guess just shariing what a friend has been up to. She is such a nice girl I hope everything works out.

Can't she be at the school and just not take part in the physical stuff?
I mean, it's not as if they teach the classes during a five-mile run with packs on their backs right?
Anyway, your friend should feel proud at least it wasn't her that failed, just her body. We're not machines, we have physical limits and though sad, it's a part of life. Maybe she could become an awesome police officer instead or something and serve and protect that way.

I can answer that. The physical part of the program is a requirement just like any other military institution. Officers at WestPoint do not only need to be good on their studies but also need to be in good phisical condition. How do they test that? They do all those running exercises, phisical activites, etc. Unfortunally with a bad ankle you cannot do all those things.
I agree she should be proud because not many people get accepted. Westpoint is one of my choices when is time to go to college. I wish i'm one of the chosen ones to go.

They have to complete a 5 week training program before they even are allowed to begin classes. I guesss it's sort of like basica training. I feel sort of bad for her because she completed any task that didnt require running perfectly. Hopefully she will still be able to do something she enjoys for the rest of her time.
I had another friend Matt who was accepted. WEll he was really my oldest brothers friend but I knew him too. And he turned down west point for Princton a few years back. He was also on a wrestling and ROTC scholorship for Princton and is very happy he didnt go to west point. Sicne attending school he actually dropped ROTC becuase they wanted him to go to war and he wouldn't. Ah well shit happens I guess.
