As you know, we are redesigning some of the look and feel of the site soon.
I am looking at simple things like "family feel" for sections of the site, plus ease of reading, etfc.
So far I am being very simple in what I'm doing. Quiet experiments into legibility etc. Nothing radical.
Please would you look at http://iomfats.org/storyshelf/shortstories/velvet.htm and tell me if it is improved by the larger font (or not) and by the pastel background instead of white space. Use ANY other story in the stort stories section to compare it with, and feel free to make suggestions.
All I have done is moved the background to pastel, increased the font size, and added a narrow margin all round the page.
In general that is what I am going to do with all pages that do not require full blown design.

That color combination is easy on the eyes. That larger font is easy to read Excellent choice!
Have you ever noticed some sites, the stories are like white print on red or yellow print on purple????? Man, that's really difficult to read.

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

It's definitely not hard on the eye. In fact its rather pleasing. The larger the font, the better, at least to a point.
Think good thoughts,

Black text on white can get a bit painful after a while. I just checked and noticed you are using CSS, phew! That will definately cut down on the workload, especially if you end up making other changes in the future.
Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.

I am making some progress with "Family feel" for each author hosted here. Each author now has a style (if he did not before), and thus an author's stories are identifiable because of the subtle diferences in background colour.
These colours are not necessarily fixed. They are easy for me to alter now, because I need to edit one file only to make sweeping changes of colour, font, etc.
The objective in all except The Scholar's stoiresis for a gentle background. Pastel. With text thatis easy on the eye.
I am undecided about the stark black background for The Scholar and will think about it.
If I have not done your own tales yet, well that is just time. It takes about 10 minutes per author.
When and if you submit biographies to me, those will be colour keyed like the stories, to keep like with like.
