It was about six o'clock when i woke up and it was time to get ready for the 20 mile bike ride through the streets of Los Angeles. Like always i did not wanted to wake up. It is my nature to wake up so early; i love to sleep. But hey i love bike riding and waking up today was not going to hurt me. Finally i was up, got ready and prepared myself a nice bowl of cereal. About the only thing i can do, don't laugh. I called my friend to make sure he was going and he was very excited about it. This was going to be a great day.
I left my house about 6:45 am and off i went to Exposition Park near the LA Collisium. Is not very far from where i live so i decided to bike there. Anyways i need it to warm up for the ride. The streets of LA are so lonely at 6 in the morning. I felt like i was the only one up on a saturday morning. As i was riding to where the ride was going to start i was think of the other bike rides i have done before. I ridden the LA bike tour before which is about 26.2 miles. Very fun ride by the way, thousands of people ride together. I remember of the other community bike rides i have done, too many to count them. I made a left on Vermont ave and i was only blocks away from arriving. I start seen the signs which directed you to where to the ride was going to start. As i got closer i started to notice people arriving on their cars and their very peculiar bicycles.
I arrived to Exposition Park about 7:05 and many where already there getting ready to ride. This is a cumunity bike ride with the mayor of Los Angeles so many people where going to be there. What makes this bike ride more special is that we get police scort throught out the whole ride. Pictures this, 30 police officers on motorcycle, police officers on bicycles, no red lights for us. For once you get to brake the rules of the rode. The best thing nobody can do anything about it. People can complain, cry, but once then see the officers they just stop. Doesn't this sound interesting? Well that is why i do it. I love to stop traffic in the middle of downtown LA , people cheering for you, it is a good feeling.
At 7:45 most people had already arrive at Exposition park and everybody was enxious to ride. My friend was excited. I saw people i used to know from other bike rides. I love this couples which i see all the time on this kind of bike ride. They have the most interesting bike of all. The husband rides in
front and the wife rides backwards. Yes she rides backwards. People loved to see that bike. I have talked to them and they say they built it themselves and is made of pure fiber glass, very light bicycle. This couple is old but they are still riding together. I want to be like them with whoever i end up with. I also saw police officer i used to ride with. Some of them i haven't seen them in three years. By now , i cannot wait to get on the road.
About 8 am we start riding and off we went to stop traffic on the streets of LA. We started at a nice paste so everybody could cath up. While on the way i would say hi to everybody i saw. They usually would answer back. Once gets a lot of attention when they see a group of bike riders. About five miles into the ride we started doing some hills. They are killers. You can really tire of you don't train a lot. Guess what i was one of them. I haven't done a bike ride in while for now. But i'm strong and i made it. We continue ride and we were near our half point stop. I was happpy to get there. We we arrived people were already there giving us bananas, water, oranges and some energy bars which i liked very much. We had some time to rest.
I was talking to some people when i grab my bike and i noticed the worse thing a bike rider could experience. I got a flat tire. Yes let give you a little history about me a flap tires. It was a normal summer day when me a friend decided to go bike riding on pathway along the freeway ( express, highway whatever you call it). It wad going to be a normal bike ride when somewhere alone the way i got a flat tire. I can hangle it. We went to bike shop fix it and we were riding again. Yes you guess it , i got another flat tire agian on the second wheel. What a day. This hasn't only happen this times, the story goes way back. As you can see i haven't had good experiences with flat tires. This time , the day of the bike ride i came prepare. I brought my equiment to fix the tire and it did not take a long time. I know something like this would happend so this time i came prepare. I finish fixing the tires just before we started the second half of the route. Yes ladies and gentlemen, i had done it. I did not let this flat tire stop me and so i got on my bicycle and started riding again.
The second half was more easier so i was at the front of the group most of the time. By this time more people we up. Most of them woke up becuase of the comotion outside. They would come out of their houses just to say hi to us. I Would hear people on their car screaming "Way to go guys". It was very exciting. Alone the way there were some accidents but nothing serious. It always happens. The most interesting part of the ride is to see the little babies with there families riding. I always like to say hi to them because they always smile back. It gives you a good feeling. The ride was coming to end and so far it has being an exciting day. I saw many thing, met new people. Finally after a while of riding we arrive at our starting point. Some were tired other it was just a warm up. As for me it was another great ride. I said bye to my friend and i headed home.
I arrive at my house at noon and i felt a little tire. I went to my bed and fell sleep for a few hours, untill i woke up now.
Now if you read through all of this i'm amaze. I just wrote it to see what would happend. I just wanted to write something about my day. Lenny seems to be pretty good at it. I decided to try.
Thank you for reading and this was my day.
Hope you enjoyed it.
Sincerely
M.

That's the spirit, hehe, not letting a flat bike tire beat you.
I love saying hi to babies too, for some reason babies almost always smile and look at me. Dunno if it is because they think I'm funny-lookin' or something...
Anyway, you really make me wish I owned a bike! I will try to get one, but first there's some other stuff I need to buy. Gothenburg is such a nice city to bike around in...if you have a bike with gears that is, because it's fairly hilly in some parts. Where I live is over 100m above ocean level, probably much more actually, so having no gears is not recommended.
Biking is nice. I still owe my pretty nice thighs and butt to all the biking I did as a kid. Oh well. Maybe around christmas I could afford something... Who knows? You take care now and keep ridin' you hear!

Sounds wonderful - I love biking. Thank you for sharing it with us! Dunno if they would work for your bike, but for mountain bikes there used to be extra-thick "thorn proof" inner tubes as well as rubber strips that go around the inside of the tire, outside of the tube to prevent flats. Probably wouldn't work for racing bike tires - dunno.

I love bike riding. It sounds like you had a really great day. You can use mountain bike tires in town. They're wider and have the knobby thread for rough terrain but they work good on streets too.
I like the part about the couple that ride the bike with her backwards....hahaha!!
Thanks for sharing your day, M

Also, while MTB tires work well on city roads too (and are generally much tougher and harder to puncture), they DO make a lot more resistance against both air and ground. Just as long as one keeps that in mind, they're great.
I rode my MTB for years with knobbly tires on it on street roads and only had one flat tire ever.
