i have two cats; they're litter-mate siblings. TZ is the boy, and haiti is the girl. TZ is freaking huge and tiger-striped, and haiti is small, dainty and black.

i can't remember how the name TZ came to be, as my old roommate named him. haiti was supposed to be "haydee" but i couldn't make that fit on her nametag, so i changed the spelling instead of her whole name, so as to not confuse her. ::-)

funny story: when we first got them, the animal shelter messed up the cages. we requested two female cats; a tiger and black cat. they had two sets of this, however .. cage #3 was a boy and girl. they didn't check, and we didn't think to ask or "check" genders before leaving. so, for the first week of TZ's life he was called "girl" and "she" and "her" and all of that, unti uh ... one day we finally noticed she was not a she, but a he.

as a joke, we had him wearing a rainbow collar for the longest time, which isn't much of a joke anymore, because when this orange-tabby stray comes around looking for love, it's TZ that goes to the slider door and howls and struts, while haiti sits on the table looking unimpressed. Very Happy

The last dog I had was a Bernese Mountain Dog...huge and furry and great in Northern winters, which I was still living in at the time (early 80's). he had a temper as well as a sense of humor. He would strew everything from the laundry basket around the house if I was late coming home, and then accuse me with his eyes of it being my own darned fault...

The last horse I had was called "Adam" for short (Up 'n Adam on show sheets), and was 17 hands, loved jumping. Even with big ole me rifing along, he would jump anything I pointed him at. I haven't ridden a horse in about 20 years now...

My brother has an old cat named Charlie, who watches TV. Actually sits in front of the the tube and watches the movement on the screen. It's cool to watch him do it.

Unfortunately we don't have pets any more. We had two pets and we miss them both very much.

Soxy was a stray desert kitten that found her way into our garden and found that we were nice people and decided to stay. She was haughty and unlike most cats did not particularly like being stroked. Sometimes she would wander off - hunting - but she would always return (probably because she was hungry). Most surprisingly, she was very tolerant of our other pet.

Lady was a tiny puppy that we found one day cuddled up on our dorrstep when she was about 5 days old. She was a mongrel and had obviously been thrown out of her litter. To her dying day, many years later, she behaved like a puppy - getting easily excited, jumping up and down, barking at strangers... We really loved her.

Unfortunately, both our pets died - not at the same time - from tumors in their digestive systems. I would give anything to have Lady back, cuddling up to me when I'm sitting in an armchair or jumping up and lying at the foot of my bed at night. This is getting mordlin...

I decided to call het that because everyone that wanted to play with the cat said.... "Here Kitty Kat" So I just figured thay knew her name.

Kitty Kat loves water.... Not all water.... just the water that whirls down the toidy when it's flushed.... She will put her two front paws up on the rim and hang her head over the edge so she can get a real good look.

I swear when she does it she looks like she has been out on a toot and is "paying the piper".... LOL

Kitty Kat just loves to be with Kevin and I.... and when she sees us going out she follows us to the door and is always sitting on a table we have by the door when we get back.

She does have this one disghusting habbit.... whenever we have dinner guests she will sit next to the guest and go about cleaning her.... well.... her.... thingy.... GROSS.... YUKKO.... BLECH....

Kitty has to drink from running water she will turn to dust rather than drink from her water bowl.... So we are forced to let the bathroom faucit drip so she can get her water.... If we ever have the unomitigated utter gaul to accidently turn off the water.... OMIGOD.... kitty will sit and stare at Kevy or myself and give one tiny small ... meow.... If we for some reason didnt jump to her majesties command she will add another more vibrant... MEOW. and we jump to her whim....

Now Kitty Kat, being the lady she is will not sit and bother herself with watching TV... (unless the movie is Cats... She will sit through every second of Cats) But I digress.... She is fascinated with the VCR's she will sit in front of the TV (just enough to not allow the remote to work) and wait for the tape to pop back out.

Now there is one thing that Kitty Kat insists on... That is that we print something for her every day.... Kitty Kat absolutely loves the printer... so many moving things.... and so many people trying to keep her cotton pickin paws out of the works.... She is totally convinced that she has to have what is inside....

Thats my Kitty Kat....

Thanks for sharing, both you and smith. Smile

I don't have any pets, mostly because I think I would be too lazy to clean up all the dust and hair and feathers and stuff pets make. I love cats though, and I like small cute dogs, preferably short-haired dogs. I'd LOVE to have a tiny little bug-eyed chihuahua I think, if I could stand the yapping! ;-D

I was gonna say that my Kissy cat is as funny as your Kitty Kat.

He loves to have a bath. He jumps in the laundry room sink and meoooooows, that keening sound they make when they're like nutso. I go and run the warm water and he wriggles all around in it. He lets me towel him and then he goes and lays in the sunshine on his perch on top of the desk by the big bay window.

He also pushes the screen out of the 2nd story window at night and then falls out. He hasn't figured that one out yet cause when I run downstairs to find him, he always gives that 'look'. "I meant to do that". yeah, right.

He won't drink out his water bowl either. It's either the dog water bowl or the sink. Hahaha! He fell in the toilet once. He's a clutz!!

the part about what your kitty does during dinner was priceless! i think all cats do that -- they're shameless!!

my haiti-kitton adores my daughter. whenever shi is with her dad (rarely, but it happens), poor haiti wanders around the house and meows CONSTANTLY, and then sulks by shi's bedroom door until she comes home.

TZ tends to gravitate toward me, he has ever since my roommate left and his little kitton heart broke. he was real, REAL sick (ironically digestive problems, if kitties could have crohn's disease too it was just like that) and had to have a kitty surgery and then had to be locked in our bathroom for a week until his kitty-catheder came out, and i stayed with him for the longest stints possible. he and i have defunct bellies and we bonded over that, and ever since then he follows me around like, well. like a puppy!

both my cats have this thing where they throw their kitty toys into their water dish, then stare at them, then me, then them all forlorn. so i take them out, and in 10 minutes they're in the water again.

your kitty kat sounds hilariously cute, marc! Cool

First my babies names are Gehngis and Shadow.

Gehngis is my baby though she is actually almost 11 years old. Funny name for a female dog I know. She is named after a rotwieler I used to have named Kahn.

Shadow is almost one year old and is a cute long haired all grey cat. When I found her and her two siblings starving (cause mommy was hit by a car) My best friend and I fed them and I said to myself, if they are here in the mornin I would take one. We found a home for the other two shortly after.

I love my babies.

But Gehngis has cancer and is going into the Vet in the morning. Probably for surgery. I tried to take her today but the doctor is out till the morning. She has aready had surgery for a larg tumor on her back. Now I found a lump next to where her original cut is. I am so scared for her.

Please say a prayer for her (and me I guess)

Thank you all,

Kevin

oh nooooo .. i'm so sorry. i completely feel you, but DON'T lose hope, okay? it's surprising what those vets can do. they didn't think my TZ-kitton would make it through surgery, and if so, not recovery, and he pulled through and is just as annoying(ly cute) as he always was.

i'll keep my fingers crossed and send light your way, for both gehngis AND you. :-*

We started with Oliver Alleycat. He came out from under a car when we went to post a letter. And followed us home and insisted in living with us. He was beautiful, and died too young. He used to play with another cat, a Russian Blue, we called "Oddball". Oddball used to come and ask if Oliver could come out to play almost knocking at our back door to call for him.

Oliver died of kidney failure. I wept.

We never replaced hijm. You don't replace creatures. But he was joined by Jessie, our baby English Setter, and also by Pippa (another one!) before he died. Jessie had two litters, and from the first we kept Matilda and the second Lizzie. Matilda bred Billy and Penny, and Lizzie gave us Alfie, and, for a while Martha, until we sold her on. We had eight English Setters in the house at one point. Quite impressive.

Somewhere alomg the line we got Ginne form the Cats Protection League. The previous owner said she'd been spayed, so we watched in horror as she fell of the fencetop with a handsome local tomcat. Twice. Both times in flagrante delicious. We kept two of the kittens, Cherry and Bramble.

Bramble is like a bramble bish. Her claws refuse to let go and she can;t be put down when youpick her up, however much she wants to be put down. Cherry is just Cherry. Run over very young and hand nursed back to health. Ginnie was killed by the bastard next door who had his greyhound off the lead.

And that doesn't include the Guinea Pigs. Gorgeous and sweet squeaky piggies who lived in the house in a boys' hutch and a girls' hutch. Five of them at one point, bvecause the pet shop let them get pregnant before we had them. I can't bring their names to mind, but I can see them as if they were still alive.

The back garden has lots of dead creatures in it.

I don't have any pets anymore. We just had to get rid of our German Shepherd, Nira, after we moved. she just couldn't adapt to the smaller space. Nira was given her name by my daughter who though thought the "mole" on her face made her look like Robert DeNiro.

I have always had a habit of naming pets after people, places, and fictional characters. My last two pets (Nira was my daughters dog) were a Great Dane named "Killebrew", Brew for short, and a rat named "August West." The Dane got his name from Harmon Killebrew, one of my favorite baseball players when I was a kid. The rat was named for the main character of a Grateful Dead song called "Wharf Rat."

The best story I have involves both of them. I'd had August for about a year when I got Brew. I spent a few days trying to introduce them before this incident caused me to give up. August had the full run of the house. His cage was never locked. Usually in the evenings when I would sit to watch TV and drink a beer, he would jump onto the sofa and make a nuisance of himself until I'd let him drink some of my beer. One evening I let Brew into the house and August was on the sofa, drunk. Brew came up to him and began to sniff. August just moved across the sofa. Brew followed. this continue for three or four trips across the sofa until august became annoyed. He let the dog get his nose right up onto his behind, then quickly jumped, turning himself to face the dog and swatted the dog with his claw right across the nose. The dog jumped backwards, yelped in horror and backed his way across the living room into the furthest corner away from the rat. The dog refused to come out of the corner and never took his eyes off the rat. After that I was never able to get Brew to go anywhere near August again.

Think good thoughts,
e

So many wonderful pets indeed.....

I have for many years avoided getting a pet. As I moved alot I thought it unfair to drag one around with me. But now I am aware of what I had missed all those years.

When my Kitty Kat walks by she always makes a little jump and pushes her little shoulder against my leg and I see that as a hug of sorts. When I come home she reaches forward with her little nose and waits for me to touch the tip of it with my finger, this I see as a little welcome smoooooch.

She looks at us with such trusting in her eyes....
