There are some new folks here, who I have not "officially" introduced myself to during the recently past upsets and all. So here I am!

I am originally from the US, living in the great city of New York for 8 years before moving to Asia in 1990. My home is in Thailand, and my heart is here as well. My partner ( a Thai guy called "Man") and I have been together a bit more than 10 years now. Man is 32 (altho he looks much better ppreserved than that, and I have pictures to send to prove that to anybody who asks for the one on the boat...hehe) and I am a Geezer of 51.

I originally found A Place of Safety about three years ago, when I was working in Hong Kong (a difficult and lonely period of time for me, as I was there more than 5 years cuz we needed the salary. Man and I had to live apart much of that time, making due with holiday visits and occasional other trips). This place and a couple of other ones made my solitary and work-driven life in Hong Kong more bearable. I moved back to Thailand on July 1st, and if you go back to earlier pages here, you can read the count-down to my leaving Hong Kong there...everybody here was great putting up with me during that period, let me tell you!

I've made good friends here through the years. That's the most important thing to remember about this place. The friends. Even if you don't feel friendly to everybody, there's enough friends here to enjoy the place without needing to fuss about the others most of the time. And there is much good to be done with people coming here needing all of our support and help.

I love jokes, like smith does. I love to post movie quote pop quizes from time to time, and will have another one of those coming soon. I love to talk about life in Asia, as it's very colorful to say the least. I love to talk about my life with Man. I love that this MB has so many other International people on it from so many walks of life. I love to write fiction as well as read the wonderful stories. (And yes, Timmy, my chapter of Robin IS under way, and the outline is complete at last...hehe) I love that this MB has so many young people here, as they are amongst my best friends here and help keep me feeling young. I hope they all come back out to play soon!

Like I said, I will be posting more in the near future, but wanted to say a new hi to the new folks, and a new hi to the old friends I may not have spoken to for a while!

Soooo....HI!Cool

Yep....We need movie quotes (just no more Steel Magnolias Sad)) and jokes and fluff to get us recharged.

I have a question.......it's dumb ::-) but what kinds of trees grow in Thailand? Is it like Florida, tropical? Palm trees and all? What kind of seasonal change do you have? It's always so weird to think of winter in Australia when I'm sweltering here. Dang, it's snowing in Michigan but here in FL, it's like 100million humid degrees.

HUGE {{hugs}} to Man >>giggle<< save me, but he is SO cute !!

smith Very Happy your bud

Yup, we're a lot like Florida...well, more like Mexico I suppose, as we are roughly the same latitude (or is it longitude...?) as southern Mexico or Guatemala. We have three seasons. Hot season, from March until September...rainy season from September until early December, when we get almost 2/3 of all the year's rain, and the "cool season" from December thru March. But the cool season is only about 5 C cooler...so it's pretty much hot all the time. I grew up near the Canadian border, so I finally have enough sunshine and warmth.

Trees? Palm trees of course...and plane trees, that have no boughs close to the ground and branch out amazingly way up high. Tropical. Like all those movies of Vietnam. It's practically next door to us.

Thanks for asking! I love answering questions about my adopted home country!Cool

And I'll look for some good pictures of some of the sights here. There are a lot worth looking at, let me tell you!

Coming soon!

Hi David!

I just recently read your thread on my post and... just wanted to thank you for that advice you gave. It really helped me a lot. ^__^
Yeah, I think I should really thank my friend, Stephen, for valuing our friendship. I didn't realize how sweet that was of him until you guys told me! It's only now that I've realized how lucky I am- that my confession didn't end up breaking any bond between Stephen and I. It still hurts, but I can't say it hasn't been the best.

Unfortunately, as much as I had wanted to, I don't live in Metro Manila. I actually come from Davao- way south of the Philippines. But who knows? Maybe I can take a vacation or something there in Manila this summer! Very Happy

Well, that's all. Thanks again!
And yeah- don't worry! I'll try to add more life into it! With people like you in this forum, I guess I might not have to go crazy after all! Heh-heh! Sad) Thanks again!
