Actually I don't. I need someone who can say "timmy, this is how you do it!"
Now I thought upgrading my old win 98 box to win xp prof would solve this. and the problem is SO stupid!
When I use any program and ask it to open a file it shows me that wonderful dialogue box with a set of files in it. And they are arranged in any way EXCEPT alphabetically. I like alphabetical. But they aren't. This is with programs. Windows explorer is FINE
So I right click and say "Arrange by name". Sure enough they arrange into alpha order.
Next time I go there, yup, they are all higgledy-piggledy again.
Doesn't matter if I am viewing at list, details, thumbnail, toenail, or what. I get a mish mash. I half think they may be arranged by date modified, but WHY? and why won't Bill Gates let me have them in Alpha order?
I had it with 98. I have it with XP. It's only on one of my machines this happens and I am totally bewildered. It just happened one day and I didn;t do anything to happen it. I want it to unhappen.
This is true unhappen-ness

Go in to Windows Explorer (Windows key + E on your keyboard). Click your C volume and choose “View Details” from the menu. Sort the listing by name as you’d like it. Press and hold down the CTRL key and with it held down quit explorer by using the close icon in the upper right-hand corner.
Let it go. On 9x you’ll need to restart your computer for this to take effect; don’t think you do on XP. Also, depending on which version of Office you have you can achieve the same result by going to the open file dialogue in the application, choosing view, sorting accordingly and holding down the CTRL key when you close it.
Surely everyone knows this
