Have you ever been invited to a party only to find out you were given the wrong time and address? Have you ever had plans with a friend only to wait by the window, never to be picked up? Have you ever been ordered to sit alone at a table in the school cafeteria? Or ordered to sit in the corner of a classroom with empty seats all around? Have you ever been told by a coach that you couldn’t participate on the team because he didn’t want any queers around? Have you ever been turned away from a friend’s wedding by one of his parents? Have you ever been harassed by the police to be accused of hustling because you were standing too long at a bus stop? Ever been told you were not welcome in your own home town?

This was all before I turned 17.

Welcome to my world.

All of it? Excessive and horrible.

Even some of it is awful

Only, surely, none of it happens today? I'll stand shoulder to shoulder with you if it does.

Awful as all this sounds (and is), in its accumulative effect it sounds like something from another (20th?) century. How old are you now?

Sadly... It still happens a lot.
Some guys threw stones at me because I'm gay before.

You said when you'd die that you'd walk with me every day
And I'd start to cry and say please don't talk that way
With the blink of an eye the Lord came and asked you to meet
You went to a better place but He stole you away from me

Then you have had lots of time to get all this behind you - and that is good. These things happened more than 34 years ago! Concentrate on the good things in your life (especially the present good things) and don't ponder too much the bad things that marred your youth. That way, life should be easier to live, friend.
