my brother just sprung the best news/gift on me EVER. despite how things are looking, i was urged to still try and post here by a dear-dear friend, and i want to share my good news, so ... here goes.
last year, the day before my birthday, he and i went to see henry rollins at this club, "the intersection," in grand rapids. it was amazing. originally the show was to be in october (right after i got out of the hospital/surgery), but it was post-poned. henry used to front the punk band "black flag," and then "the rollins band" in the 70s/80s, then 90s to current.
now, he does spoken word--some comedy, some serious. you go from ragingly angry to deliriously happy to ridiculously sad in the span of three hours; he is an AMAZING speaker. i have all of his books (really i don't care much for his music, but his writing is just ... like woah); have cited him in three seperate essays, and had an essay published at my old college, that was a compare/contrast of solitude vs. escapism, in which i used many henry rollins references.
anyway, i have pics on the computer here from that show; we were three rows back, but there was no meet and greet session after the show because there was a disturbance backstage or something. there will be at this show. my brother and i both have written henry, and both have received letters back over the years. he answers all fan mails; he abhors places/people who have people doing it for them. tony's was about his divorce. mine was about shiloh's father and various problems. he's a guru.
so tony calls me today and says "happy christmas, late, and merry not smoking anymore. cancel whatever you're doing on february 19th, and if you have school, wave your 4.0 you got this term (yes .. it turns out i did make president's list .. highest honors .. woah) under your professor's nose, and say your brother is kidnapping you."
so i'm just ... so so so happy, and cannot wait, and hope that i can get the ticket autographed!!!!
ok, now i go back to constructing this camouflage scarf, and listening to lotr soundtracks on shuffle (ALL THREE CDs, YES!!!).
