Halifax Share Dealing has apologized to bank customers in the United Kingdom for a telephone mix-up that re-directed them to a gay chat line.
Halifax Share Dealing sent out 15,000 letters with the wrong contact number for an account hotline. Customers dialing the hotline were greeted by disco music and a warning that it was an adult phone line.
Karen Collins, of Hall Green, Birmingham, says she called back twice thinking she had a wrong number.
Collins told the Birmingham Evening Mail: "I wanted to discuss my ISA, not meet gay men. It's quite funny, especially as thousands of account holders will have this letter. Perhaps someone will find a date through it."
A spokesman said: "We are reviewing our proofreading procedure to ensure this does not happen again."
The Halifax is writing to account holders apologizing for the mistake and giving them the right telephone number.
