An old man is walking down a beach. There has been a terrible storm the previous night, and thousands of starfish have been washed up on the shore. The man is placing them one by one in the water when a younger man walks up to him and asks, "What are you doing?". The old man answers "I'm placing the starfish back in the water." "Why? You'll never get them all in time before they die, so why bother at all? Who does it matter to?", the young man asks in reply. The old man picks up a small starfish and places it in the water and says, "It matters to her".

Sometimes we just look at everything around us and it's just too much. We can't do it all. So we don't do anything....just sigh and walk away. This story always reminds me that we can do one small thing at a time to help.

Moi!
Great story!

You said when you'd die that you'd walk with me every day
And I'd start to cry and say please don't talk that way
With the blink of an eye the Lord came and asked you to meet
You went to a better place but He stole you away from me

That one is a philsophy that I usually try to stick to. Very few people can change the world, directly, so instead of despairing and giving up hope, do as much as you can do yourself and have a positive influence on those few around you. You'd be surprised how far your ripples of goodness can spread. Just being in a happy mood can have a positive effect on people that stretches as far as the leaders of the world. After all, I once heard somewhere that everyone is connected to Bill Gates through 8 people or less...

Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.
