No commentary from me neccessary, I think:

'Shunned by Japanese baseball teams, the 23-year-old Tadano signed with the Indians last March. They think he can make their club this spring.

Tadano gave few details about the video, which he made after his sophomore year at Rikkyo University.

"I did participate in a video and I regret it very much," he said. "It was a one-time incident that showed bad judgment and will never be repeated. I was young, playing baseball, and going to college and my teammates and I needed money.

"Frankly, if I were more mature and had really thought about the implications of what I did, it never would have happened."

Through an interpreter, Tadano added: "I'm not gay. I'd like to clear that fact up right now."'

The Indians are my favorite baseball team and I've been aware of Tadano since last year. The story is nothing new, but has just caught on in the national press because there's a chance he could be in the major leagues this season. Though he's felt it necessary to deny being gay on several occasions (he might not be), his teammates have had very positive things to say about him. No one seems too concerned about his sexuality other than the press and probably some fans who will undoubtedly harrass him. If he does make the team, it will be interesting to see how the story is handled in the press and how the fans react.

Think good thoughts,
e

Pretty heavy story. Not aware of that. It seems that the guy was a good pitcher, and would have done well had he not made the mistake. *shrug* i don't think he should be punished for his actions. Everyone makes mistakes. It just revolves around whether we should view athletes and other public figures on a higher pedestal or a different level than everyone else. Well that's my opinion. Hope things turn out for him. Smile
