Well, I just finished my finals in my Baking 1 class. I think I did pretty well even though some of my dishes didn't come out quite as good as I wanted. One day of written exams and three days of cooking. I get to find out tonight just how I did. We have to go in to clean the kitchen and conduct exit interviews as usual when we finish a class and they give us our final grade. My cooking projects this time were Brioche a Tete, Lemon Meringue Tart, Strawberry Shortcakes, and Croissants along with the practical skills exam. The tart was the only one I was satisfied with, though I might have overcooked the crust ever so slightly. The brioche got a little too dark on the "tetes" while not being dark enough on the bodies. The croissants were also too dark and might have been underdone inside, and the shortcakes didn't puff up the way I would have liked. But these were all fairly minor flaws except being underdone on the croissants. Though it was slight, being underdone may have cost me a letter grade on the item. I guess I will find out tonight.

I found out last night that our class is being split up. The school had a policy of keeping classes together thoughout the program, but has apparently changed it's policy. There are only three or four people from my class who will be in my class next term. Unfortunately, Brandon isn't one of them. He would have been, but the girl he rides with was transferred to a different class, so he requested to be changed as well. Now that I will know almost no one in my class, I'm thinking of requesting a change to the afternoon schedule. Lab classes are noon to five and I would take the academics in the morning. That would leave me to be home in the evenings and I would get to see my wife a bit more. I have to make the request today, since classes start on Monday, but I've got a couple of hours to think about it.

{{HUGS}} for anyone who wants one.

...And a croissant too, if possible, hehe. They're interesting food items methinks, flakey and sort of brittle on the surface but soft and fluffy inside. I almost never eat them, which makes me want to have one now. That, and the fact I'm just ever so slightly hungry. Smile

I still luv your cooking school reports, thanks for continuing to spend the time to keep us all updated! *smooch!* You're really great, thanks!! Sorry to hear you'll get separated from Brandon, that sucks. Btw, I thought you said he rode with you sometimes?

Anyway, I'm sure you'll get to know the guys in your new class, and hopefully there's a new cutie there. Smile

Take care now!

*hugs*

I did a lot better than I expected. Well ok, not a lot better, but better. My instructor didn't think there was as much wrong with my products as I thought there was. Combined with the written exam and all the products I produced, my score on the final was 89.25. Averaged in with my other quiz scores, homework, attendence, and production my final grade was 93.30 which is an A. ;-D ;-D ;-D ;-D ;-D ;-D ;-D

I found out that it was not a change in policy that caused the class to be broken up, but a combining of all four classes into three. Apparently enough students had dropped out of failed (yes, two students failed the baking class) that they no longer had enough students to justify four different classes. So they took my class and distributed us amoung the other three to even things out.

I decided not to change to afternoons, though. So I'm still going nights. I do most of my studying in the morning and would have to change my entire routine and study at night after school if I made the switch. I know I wouldn't study as much if I did because I'd be tired when I get home and would want to veg out in front of the tv instead of studying.

Tonight we made cakes. Two devil's food cakes, one will be for a Black Forest cake. I'm not sure what we'll do with the other one. Then we made an opera joconde (an almond flavored genoise), and a Sacher cake (almond and chocolate). We'll be decorating them later this week.

OMG! Molasses cookies! YUM! Can I have one?

Yeah, it kinda sucks with our class being broken up (see my reply to smith for details). I didn't see Brandon at all tonight and probably won't since my class is upstairs while is is still on the first floor. He didn't ride with me, I rode him him a couple of times when my wife's car broke down and she had mine. Brandon took me home. But that was before he started carpooling. Most of my friends are in the other classes. I talked with a couple of the new ones, briefly. They seem nice enough, but no one is anywhere near as pleasant to look at as Brandon. :-/
