I was once so proud to have been awarded "Gay Page Awards" for the site. They are still displayed at present on the awards page.

Behind the awards is a webring of award winners, and many of us were members. That webring has dwindled in size until there are now perhaps 60 members. The awarder of the awards also vanished, was replaced by an interim one, and now a new organisation has taken over.

The first message from the new organisation tried to sell all webring members his services.

I have removed my site from that webring for that reason. I do not support his aims that appear to be entirley commercial.

After telling him that I did not find the way he was doing business and managing the webring very pleasant he started name calling, which was not wholly helpful. I am now considering whether to remove the original awards, awarded years ago by the original awarding body. To me they are now a spent force in gay website quality. And that's a shame.

As you are well aware, it costs money to run a site. That may be the reason for all the changes. Just guessing. Keep the award because you earned it. It was awarded by the original guy, not the new one. If it links to the new owner's site, so be it. Even if he goes commercial there's no harm in referring us to him if the content is worthwhile. If you don't want to pay to be a part of the webring, don't. Just my 2 cents.

Think good thoughts,

Oh it's not just that. he has decided to enforce some rules immediately he took over, and is doinbg the entire "political correct" thing.

I resigned from the webring (free anyway) and will not take his services ever, since he spammed me with them, but I do object to all sites in the ring being inspected by him, whoever he is, to see if they are fit to remain in it. Interestingly, when I objected to this, he then made certain unpalatable accusations.

I have never held in high regard a perosn who name calls and shouts when under pressure.

What is wrong with reviewing sites to ensure their suitability?

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

a retrospective review and rule change is not something I support. One manages a webring as a new manager because one wishes to keep going with what was there, not suddenly impose a new will on something.

While a new manager might want to keep what is there, you can't expect he will agree with everything that was there or that he will not want to make it his own. He apparently has found some things he considers disagreeable or distasteful and wants them changed or not associated with his site. Though the name-calling is probably uncalled for, a new webmaster making changes to a site is not unexpected. Also a person who hands out awards based on certain standards should be able to expect that those standards be maintained. For instance if you were a restaurant and were awarded four stars, then you make changes,it may no longer merit four stars. Certainly the awarder has the right to take away the stars. In this case, the former webmaster gave you the award, not the new one, but it is now the responsibility of the new one to impose the standards and hand out the awards.

Be proud of the recognition you received from the original webmaster, do what you will with the new one.

Think good thoughts,

Considering that this new webmaster is imposing his standards to the site your assessment is a moot point.

What does any of this have to do with the origional award?

Unless you altered your website to be nonconforming to the standard at the time I don't see a problem.
