It seems like people I know only like me when I can do something for them. My neighbor Sam IMed me tonight and said that i should go to a party with him and ryan tonight. I was like um no I don't do parties. Actually first he said that I should go up the local trail with them, a prefered hiking spot of mine. I was suspicious and kept quesstioning why I should go. Eventually I got ot the basics which wa sthat they need my help to get them up to the party so that they don't get lost or fall over to much. Then they also want me to escort them down again once they finish drinking. I told them to leave me alone. It's weird all my friends are like that, If they want something suddenly they are my best and clossest brothers. But if they don't wnat anything they completley ignore me.
Sigh and this is how they all are. And people wonder why I say I have no friends only aquentinces.

then you know how i feel about my friends..... i don't consider then 'true' friends.. just just people i know.
It is strange how they always seem act nice .. honestly they are just looking for something.. it sucks but oh well.. i try not to worry about it.

oh and Andy.. .i would love to be your friend.. i think we would get along very well.... specially when it comes to hiking... i like doing it every once in a while.
Plus anyways..... wouldn't be fun us discussing about guys? who is hottest, etc.... i think it would be great to talk to someone about these things. You know .. tell each other what we wouldn't normal tell to other people.
But again.. life is cruel sometimes... i'm on the other side of the country.... so i guess we should at least try to be happy with what we have.
You don't love someone because they are beautiful, they are beautiful because you love them.

I suppose that adds to the "A friend in need is a friend indeed" thought. I always interpreted it the way your "friends" are. They need. so they become close.
The thing you need to do is to decide if you are content with this type of friendship. Having it can allow fun happenings, but you have always to be realistic about why they want you.
Sometimes consenting to be used is OK. Other times it just isn;t.

That is kinda convenient for them, isn't it, Little Brother. Sadly enough, there are those out there that will take advantage of you every chance they get, and only think of their own needs first.I've meet maybe five totally selfless ppl my whole life, and the number of ppl I count as truly good friends still leaves me enough toes left to pick up a pencil (yes, toes; I had to count out and needed more than just the fingers).
I guess the trick is in being a quality friend to give others an example. Then surrounding yourself with quality friends as well. Sure the parties might be smaller, but I'd bet they're more fun, and you probably will find someone you can either talk to or just be silent with. And in all actuallity, the second kind of friend is rarer and more worthy in my humble opinion.

...That when people do things like this, it does not reflect on your worth as a human being. It reflects on THEIR LACK of worth.
Those who have been privileged to get to know you over the internet know you are a wonderful guy with a great sense of humor and a big heart. It's their loss, the people around you, for not appreciating what you have to offer.
Take care, our favorite treelover. You're a great human being, and we're all in your debt for being allowed to get to know you!

Wow I hate when i forget what my password is *sighs* Anyway. So last night was really long for me. I did end up going out with Ssam not to the party however which is good becuase it got busted an 22 kids were arrested for underage drinking. What else, what else. Oh yeah. He dicthed me about 8 miles from home and I had to walk home alone at 11 o clock at night because I had no way to call for a ride. Thats ok I enjoyed it. However once I got hom he started yelling at him for leaving him. Because I wouldn't get in a car with someone I didn't know.

You know, I think a car with someone you don't know is preferable to walking home at that time of night, especially in winter. Unless they are drunk
please explain how a party can be raided by the police for underage drinking? I have never understood the USA

Timmy,in America kids just are not safe even from their own peers.Accepting a *ride* from a stranger, even if its just another teen is dangerous. Its safer just to walk home even several miles.Who knows what drugs or other stuff that driver has in his car or what kind of person the driver is? The answer to your second question deals with the meanness of our kids.Someone just didnt get invited to the party and *ratted out* the party goers to the police.Or it could be a simple grudge against someone..Thanks by the way for modifying that last poll.It better reflects the practices of gays. s

Yeah So I dunno about in other towns but i learned this weekend that my high school has a frat. go figure. Anyway. Somehow the cops alwasy know where the aprties are. Then again the only party in two spots in the woods and down at the soccer field. So the cops alwasy find them. Like tduh they lit a fricken bon fire and expected no one to notice. So then the cops come. Arrest everyone they can catch and toss allt he alcohol into the fire or dump it all into the grass. This time it all went into the fire.
Round here excepting rides can be deadly. Everyweekend there are coutnless crashes and people OD'ing on drugs. Without knowing the guy driving or being sure of his state it was the safer choice to walk home. At that hour of night I saw pratically no one even driving except some kids stoned off there asses swerving in the streets. Plus once I got myself hauled over to my sideof town I was fine. It the side with the parties you have to watch out for. My side is very safe actually plus I know my own turf
Love alwasy
Andy

Andy's pretty much right. After 11:00 there's no one on the roads here except kids and highway patrol and you just don't get in cars with people if you don't know where they've been and what they've been drinkin/smokin/takin. I've walked home a few times myself. Once I get within 3 miles of my house, I know the backway.
I know everybody tells us to carry a cell or phone money, but we're not usually where we say we're gonna be, right Andy?

Right. I definitly wasn't where I should have been thursday night nor was there a phone conviently placed that I could have used. Even if I had called I woudl have gotten in more trouble for being where I was than for showing up at midnight...

well see, a party is a large 50-200 people gathering in some open public area. In our case they party at the soccer field. At night time it is illegal to be there due to town ordinances we have a curfew. Therfore they can be arrested just for being there after 10 o clock at night. Then you add on some severely underage drinking and you have a fine mess that the cops just love to play with.
Peace
Andy

you are not alone in feeling lost about America.Growing up as a kid in this vast wasteland can be a confusing experience.Though us confused transplants from the land of the wise and sage can use a bit of help. s

Ah! Now I understand. To me a party is a gathering on property owned by a person who gives permission!
A town curfew? What kind of a free nation is that?

I am probably way out of line here, and I apologize in advance if I hurt anybody's feelings, but I have read this whole thread through three times to make sure that I really understand. I am absolutely amazed. How can people live in such a society? Is this the America that is supposed to be the bastion of the Western World, the paragon of democratic virtues? God help the West! Land of the free? Don't make me laugh! Home of the brave? Yeah, well I spoze Andy was indeed brave to walk 8 miles by himself at 11 pm...
Judgin by this thread there is something very rotten in the state of America...

Yup, Steve, you got it right about what it must feel like to live in the US these days. It was one of the reasons I left, in fact. The only thing worse than unsafe environments like these are places like New York City, that got much safer by encouraging their police to become fascists and locking up anybody looking even vaguely threatening.
When I do "New-Comer Orientation" seminars for people newly arrived here, it is almost always the Americans who are most concerned about whether it is safe here or not.
And it is. Nobody thinks twice about going home with other people, stuff like that.:-/

Thailand does have a bit of a democracy problem though from what I hear in the news, and the police isn't exactly pampering those accused of drug crimes either. I don't remember actual numbers, but it was quite a few people killed rather than arrested...
Well, no country's perfect I guess.

I seem to recall that Thailand has a different legal outlook, too. "Guilty. Now prove you are innocent". It is just a different land with different customs.

I should have been more clear...I was talking about the safety of foreign residents here. It's like being priviledged everywhere, I guess.
There is crime here, of course. And yes, the anti-drug campaign last year was a real shocker. But the police here aren't paid enough to be beyond corruption, and when the entire legal and judicial systems are not level playing fields for everybody, it's a real problem.
My personal peeve about living in Thailand is that you don't have to learn how to drive to get a Driver's License. You just have to have the money to buy it (less than US$10). No learner's permits, nothing. So road accident is always the #1 cause of death here every year.
"Due process", "democracy", and "the rule of law" truly have different definitions all over the globe.
